Diablo Immortal Developers Accused of Using AI for Hearthstone Crossover Poster

Diablo Immortal Developers Accused of Using AI for Hearthstone Crossover Poster

The developers of Diablo Immortal have found themselves at the center of controversy due to a poster created for a special collaboration with the card game Hearthstone.

Players on Reddit suspected that artificial intelligence was used to generate the poster, pointing to several suspicious elements in the artwork.

For example, users noticed mirrored cards in the character’s hands, oddly shaped hands, a pendant that seems to merge with the skin, and a missing plate beneath the food. One of the most telling signs, according to critics, is the character’s ear—a feature that AI tools often struggle to render correctly.

The Reddit post analyzing the image received over 4,500 reactions. Many fans believe that Activision Blizzard avoided hiring a real artist to save costs, despite allowing players to purchase expensive in-game items with real money in Diablo Immortal. Some also pointed out that Microsoft, which owns Activision Blizzard, has a history of actively using AI technologies, including replacing laid-off employees with AI systems.

So far, Activision Blizzard has not commented on whether AI was used to create the crossover poster. However, the company previously admitted that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 includes AI-generated assets.
