I first played Delta Force back at its original release on PC, and while I greatly enjoyed the game, seeing its massive potential, a few things stood out to me. Firstly, I thought, “This game is beautiful, how will it ever run on console?” Secondly, and more importantly to me, was the lack of controller support for the PC version at the time, which is something I have brought to the developers’ attention on multiple occasions.
It’s fair to say that I was very hesitant going into the console version, as I wasn’t sure how the game would translate across. It’s important to note that this is not a review; we have already covered that with the PC version, which you can read here.
I was fortunate enough to gain access to the closed network test of Delta Force on console a little while ago, and I have to say I was immediately impressed. Not only does the game translate well to a controller, but in most cases, I’d argue it’s the best way to play the game now in 2025 on any platform.
Even more impressive than that, however, is the way that Delta Force still looks great on console. Characters, animations, and environments all looked great in the short time I had with the console version. While it’s definitely a downgrade from the highest settings available on PC, of course, but most people don’t run the game that way anyway, and Delta Force’s presentation on console keeps up with its contemporaries.
One thing that did surprise me, however, was the lack of keyboard and mouse support on console, especially considering that Delta Force was designed as a keyboard and mouse–first game. So, I asked the developers about this, the challenges of bringing Delta Force to console, and much more in the Q&A below.
Delta Force Developers Team Jade Interview
The following interview was conducted over email, and we unfortunately didn’t have the chance to meet in person. All answers were provided by Shadow, Delta Force Game Director at Team Jade.
Q1: Congratulations on the console release of Delta Force. Can you tell me what the biggest challenge faced by the team was when developing this console version?
A: Thank you! The biggest challenge for us was reimagining Delta Force for controller input. We put a lot of effort into adjusting the UX to feel intuitive and easy to navigate, while remaining fair for both controller and mouse/keyboard players. Additionally, working on performance optimization to ensure a seamless experience with large-scale 32v32 combat was crucial.
Q2: Following on, there are many console SKUs now, which obviously creates more work for developers in terms of optimization. Can you tell us about what performance modes and targets Delta Force is aiming for with each machine? (Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS5 Pro)
A: Absolutely. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, we aim for 1440p resolution at 60 FPS, ensuring smooth and stable gameplay. For Xbox Series S, the target resolution is 1080p at 60 FPS. We’re also exploring the possibility of introducing a higher FPS performance mode later this year.
Q3: Of course, bringing the game to console means the addition of controller support. Did the team encounter any issues in translating the experience to a controller effectively? Additionally, will the game add mouse and keyboard support on console, like we have seen many other FPS titles do in recent years?
A: We definitely spent a lot of time optimizing the controls for the controller. Each weapon in Delta Force was fine-tuned to ensure it felt right while using a controller, striking a balance between intuitive gameplay and PvP fairness. As for mouse and keyboard support, we currently have no plans to implement this on consoles.
Q4: Additionally, on mouse and keyboard, if there are no plans for support at this time, does that mean you will be blocking any hardware adapters allowing players to use such devices on console?
A: Indeed. We are committed to providing a balanced and fair gameplay experience, and as part of this, we are taking steps to block any hardware adapters that allow the use of a mouse and keyboard on consoles.
Q5: A major concern on any platform for multiplayer FPS games is obviously cheating. Is the team confident that they will be able to handle any such issues? And can you explain a little bit about how you plan to deal with any cheating, such as using anti-cheat software?
A: Cheating is always a top priority for us. We have dedicated resources focused on preventing cheating across all platforms. We utilize a combination of advanced anti-cheat systems and constant monitoring to detect and address any cheating issues. Additionally, we maintain open communication with our community to gather reports and let players know the status of Delta Force’s anti-cheating efforts.
Q6: Obviously, Delta Force will be supporting cross-play, but for players who don’t want this, will there be an option to disable it?
A: Of course, players can absolutely choose to opt out. We believe in giving players control over their experience, and allowing them to choose whether they want to play with or against players from other platforms is important.
Q7: I have asked this before, but now that Delta Force is opening its doors to a bigger audience, has the team considered adding some much-needed additional accessibility options? If yes, can you give us any details on what these options might be? If not, many players will be disappointed with the limited accessibility options currently. What would you say to them? And what is the best way for any players who encounter difficulties to provide feedback?
A: We’re actively working on expanding accessibility options and will be revealing more details soon. Players can always share feedback directly with us via DM on X. We’re committed to improving accessibility and appreciate the ongoing input from our community.
Q8: As you know, the FPS genre is quite a crowded one with lots of competition. Are there any concerns amongst the team about dealing with the competition from games like Battlefield 6 and the latest Call of Duty?
A: The more awesome games for players, the better! And we’re very confident in what Delta Force offers. Our unique combination of a large-scale tactical warfare experience and extraction-based PvPvE gameplay, provided in AAA quality without a price tag and with fair, respectful microtransactions, sets us apart from other titles. We are also committed to continuous updates and improvements for years, and we’re excited to see how players respond to what we have to offer.
Q9: The delay of Delta Force coming to console has left many who were looking forward to the game a bit frustrated. What is being done, if anything can be, to get these fans interested again?
A: We completely understand the frustration. The delay was necessary to ensure the console version delivers the best possible experience. We’re working hard to provide a seamless and enjoyable launch, and we’ve also made adjustments to progression so console players can catch up quickly and dive right into the action!
Q10: Finally, is there anything you’d like to say to those picking up and playing Delta Force on console?
A: We’re incredibly excited to have you join us on this journey! Delta Force on console is a big chapter in the game’s evolution, and we can’t wait for you to experience all the intense battles, tactical gameplay, and exciting content we’ve packed into it. We’re committed to continually improving the game, and we truly value your feedback. Enjoy the game, and welcome to the Delta Force community!
So, the team is very excited about this console launch and is always open to feedback. Make sure you reach out to them and provide constructive feedback if you have it. I can tell you from experience, they listen.
