As we all know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t exactly in the “most stable of places” right now. Even with “more positive” projects like Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four First Steps doing decently enough at the box office this year, it’s not at the level that past MCU films did on the regular. Furthermore, the TV series under its banner hasn’t been making much waves either, as Ironheart didn’t really “shake things up,” and even Daredevil Born Again had some pitfalls, as my review noted.
That being said, we were always going to get a Season 2, and today, we learned that we’ll get more than that. In a chat with IGN, Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, revealed that Daredevil Born Again Season 3 will happen, stating:
“In terms of Daredevil, yeah, we are greenlit for Season 3, and we start shooting next year.”
That’s fascinating on multiple levels, not the least of which is that this is the first time we’ve seen this level of “consistent output” from a Marvel TV series. Well, one that’s for a show actually tied to the MCU, that is (rest in peace, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!)
Anyway, this likely means that Season 3 will air in 2027, and thus keep the wait time between seasons low. Another curious thing is that while Season 1 was anticipated and reviewed well enough…it didn’t dominate the ratings like you’d expect. So, that shows that Marvel has faith that fans will “come around” to things with their take on the “Man Without Fear,” and thus keep it going until things run their natural course. That “natural course” will include him re-teaming with Jessica Jones (and possibly others) in Season 2.
Now, will he ever join the Avengers…?
