Yesterday, Crunchyroll announced to its staff that they are reorganizing the company with international growth in mind. The message from President Rahul Purini stated that this growth would include layoffs of a number of employees; however, a specific number was not mentioned.
In addition to the layoffs, it was noted that current employees may see their duties expanded or their roles changed completely. The changes went into effect on Tuesday, August 12, in the U.S. The changes will occur in their international offices based on those respective countries’ timelines and laws.
Puriri believes that this is the best path forward that will support regionally-empowered teams to lean into anime fandom even further. He also stressed that these layoffs are not due to financial reasons.
