Final Thoughts
The first official issue of Mega Man Timelines is here! Rock sees a series of explosions in Symphony City and springs into action with Rush. When he arrives, he encounters Blast Man from Mega Man 11! Blast Man has gone off his rocker and rigged the city to explode. He has also turned regular Metools into bombs to use at his whim. Blast Man isn’t alone; however, Torch Man (also from Mega Man 11) shows up and chastises Blast Man for fighting without honor, as Torch Man would rather fight Mega Man fairly!
Can Blast Man be stopped!?
I have to say, compared to Mega Man #0, this was more in line with what I expected a Mega Man comic to be. While Mega Man #0 was more light-hearted and whimsical, here in Timelines #1, we are treated to true, classic Mega Man action!
I loved how they gave Blast Man and Torch Man distinct personalities that drew clear lines between chaotic evil, neutral evil, and lawful good. Blast Man always seemed like a loose cannon in the game, and here, they turned that personality up to (Mega Man) 11 to the point where he seemed truly sadistic. Torch Man’s warrior way isn’t anything new as far as a character archetype goes; however, it shows that there can be division even if two people are on the same side.
Mega Man’s emotions were displayed perfectly here, showing his “human” side that was always talked about in the games. His strong sense of justice, paired with his compassion, is what makes Mega Man who he is, and I thought his actions, feelings, and determination all encapsulated that. Of course, we get the “To Be Continued” at the end as this story isn’t over just yet!
Great first issue!
