Chibi-Robo Creator Celebrates Nintendo Switch Online Arrival By Noting The Title’s True Origins

Looking to another Nintendo franchise, before going a different path...

Chibi-Robo, Nintendo Switch Online

As we noted a few days ago, Chibi-Robo will soon arrive on Nintendo Switch Online via the Expansion Pack. In celebration of that, over on Twitter, the original GameCube title’s director, Hiroshi Moriyama, decided to elaborate on what it was that drove him to make this quirky little title. Ironically, it wasn’t that he had an “all-new idea” he wanted to create, but instead, he looked at The Legend of Zelda franchise and thought about what it would be like if certain gameplay elements were taken away:

“I created Chibi-Robo while imagining a ‘Zelda but without the battles,’ making sure that even actions like walking around or climbing furniture feels like a fun and thrilling experience. Chibi-Robo has over 1,000 animations, and all of them were hand-crafted with care. That might be the reason why the game is still loved even now, 20 years after its release. Thank you so much.”

It’s always interesting to hear the origin stories of titles like this, and you have to wonder if this little robot could make a return in the future. You never know!
