AVerMedia’s Live Gamer Bolt! External Capture Device Does 4K60 HDR and Up to 240FPS At 1080p

By Keith MitchellMay 29, 2019

4K60 HDR 240FPS box of badass

AVerMedia has been killing it as of late when it comes to video capture devices. They’ve got internal capture cards capable of recording 4K HDR 60FPS / 240FPS 1080p, as well as a bunch of external cards that are just as good. They just can’t do 4K HDR at 60FPS / 1080P 240FPS. Well, that was only true the other day as they have unveiled a beast of a capture device. The AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt!, which was just shown at Computex 2019 (I swear I’m going there one of these years). This will definitely be of interest to content creators and gamers alike.

Updated: AVerMedia confirmed that this is definitely using Thunderbolt.

Not much information is available as of yet, but I assume it’s just a matter of time before we see a press release pass through our inbox. However, looking at the pictures, it does appear to use a USB Type-C connection or Thunderbolt, with 2x HDMI ports. There also looks to be one more connection in the back possibly a 3.5mm jack for headphones or microphone support. The box looks fairly big but this could also be a prototype and not the finished product. There’s an undercarriage that houses a light which I’m not sure what it does. Lastly, there’s a LED that appears to go around the entire device, which could be used to report the status of the capture device.

Spec-wise, it appears to be very similar to the AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K, which is a PCIe card. Meaning that everything that card does, 4K60 HDR at 60FPS, and up to 240FPS (1080p) will also be possible via an external card. Which I believe would be the only one of the market that’s capable of this. Pretty amazing stuff, if you ask me. This also means that gamers who are rocking extremely powerful laptops or running small format PCs that don’t have room for a PCIe card and now able to record at the highest possible quality.

Currently, there’s no pricing or availability regarding the AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt!. However, as soon as we find out, we’ll let you all know.

Now I just need to figure out how to get one of these for my SFF PC. It would go right at home with my AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K.
