Since the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been eager to see when certain characters would debut. However, one group had been intentionally left out for a long time due to rights issues: the X-Men. Despite arguably being Marvel’s best property, they were left to their own universe via 20th Century Fox…which Disney later bought, and now, it’s only a matter of time before they arrive for real. Today, the third Avengers: Doomsday teaser dropped, and the beloved mutants are back…at their lowest moment.
As you’ll see in the teaser below, the X-Mansion is in shambles, with Professor Xavier and Magneto coming together one last time to embrace the death that comes for them, or so it appears. Then, at the very end, we see Sentinels in the background right as Cyclops releases his optic blasts at full power.

The question you might have here is, “Why show this as the next teaser?” Simply put, it’s likely because of the multiversal element of things that’ll inevitably happen both in this film and in “Secret Wars” next year.
Plus, putting a “true capper” on the X-Men from Fox’s run, including bringing back as many actors from those films as possible to “tie things together,” will allow the MCU to do its own take on things when the time comes.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18th.
