Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Reveals a More Serious Thor

"Please, father, heed my words..."

Marvel has a massive task on their hands with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars “double feature” that’ll start in less than a year. As I’ve carefully documented, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen better days, both on the TV and movie front. Many see the upcoming 2-part epic as a “key moment” in what happens next, as we’ll find out very quickly if this is “all about nostalgia,” or if the Russo Brothers can work their magic once more. Based on the now officially released Thor teaser that dropped today, things are looking hopeful.

The teaser clearly takes place well after Thor: Love and Thunder, and Thor goes out alone to make a prayer to his father, asking for the strength to protect his new “daughter” from the dangers that are to come, so that he can give her a life of peace once it’s over.

What speaks to me about this is the simple fact that Thor…is acting like Thor again! Seriously, Love and Thunder butchered him, as my review made clear, and made him more of a fool than anything God-like. Here, though, we see the honorable Asgardian once more, and he’s acting like someone who knows the true responsibility of fatherhood and is finally willing to lay down his arms to give something far more important to someone he cares about.

We’ll see how this all works out when Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18th.
