8 Exciting Video Games Releasing in August 2025 (Release Dates & Platforms)

By Keith MitchellAugust 1, 2025
Must play games of August 2025

If you thought July 2025 was packed with amazing video games, think of it as just the warm-up. August 2025 is absolutely loaded with must-play releases, the kind of lineup that makes your backlog cry and your wallet sweat. Whether you’re into fast-paced action, emotional storytelling, or fresh new worlds to explore, this month delivers big.

Here’s a complete look at 8 exciting games releasing this August, including release dates, platforms, and why they’re worth your time.

Mafia: The Old Country – August 7, 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

Developer/Publisher: Hangar 13 / 2K Games
Genre: Action-Adventure

Mafia: The Old Country Key Art

Mafia: The Old Country puts players into the smoky underworld of 1920s Sicily in this gritty prequel to the Mafia franchise. With a rich narrative, next-gen visuals, and a fresh setting grounded in historical crime drama, this is a must-play for fans of the Mafia series. Gritty. Gripping. Brutal. And Lots of Violence. Yep, this is a Mafia game.

I know at least one person is really looking forward to this game… ain’t that right, Jordan?

Madden NFL 26 – August 16, 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

Developer/Publisher: EA Sports
Genre: Sports

Madden 26 Deluxe Edition Cover

Madden NFL 26 levels up with smarter AI, new animations, and a deeper Franchise Mode built to reflect the real NFL offseason drama. Football fans should look forward to the most immersive and strategic Madden yet, with dynamic crowd reactions and real-time commentary updates. From everything I’ve read and seen about this next chapter in the Madden series, and despite not being the biggest fan of Football games, I’m a bit excited.

Titan Quest II (Early Access) – August 1, 2025 (PC)

Developer/Publisher: THQ Nordic
Genre: Action RPG

OMG. It’s been a long time since I last played Titan Quest, and I loved it. Mythology baked into an action RPG  that wasn’t a Diablo clone, and it worked. So well that Titan Quest II was greenlit, and despite it being years since we last heard about the game, THQ surprised the masses by releasing the game into Early Access for the PC. However, times have changed, and the action RPG is busting at the seams, so Titan Quest II has to be something special to stand out.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – August 29, 2025 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, PC)

Developer/Publisher: SEGA
Genre: Action-Adventure / Stealth

Shinobi Art of Vengeance Header Image

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a reimagining of the beloved Shinobi franchise, fusing high-speed ninja combat with stylized stealth and mythological elements. I had a chance to get some hands-on with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance during Summer Game Fest 2025, and I couldn’t stop grinning, as it was easily the best game at the event. As a huge fan of the Shinobi series who grew up with it, this is the game I’m looking forward to the most in August 2025.

Lost Soul Aside – August 29, 2025 (PS5, PC)

Developer/Publisher: Ultizero Games / Sony Interactive Entertainment
Genre: Action RPG

Lost Soul Aside is the long-awaited action RPG that delivers lightning-fast combat and cinematic flair reminiscent of Final Fantasy XV and Devil May Cry. If you crave stylish swordplay, mysterious worlds, and anime-inspired spectacle, this is one of 2025’s most exciting sleeper hits. It’s finally real, finally here, and I can’t wait to play it.

Gears of War: Reloaded – August 26, 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

Developer/Publisher: The Coalition / Xbox Game Studios
Genre: Third-Person Shooter

Gears of War - Reloaded Header image

Gears of War: Reloaded brings the iconic Gears series into a new era, with jaw-dropping Unreal Engine 5 visuals and deeper squad-based mechanics. Whether you’re a veteran COG soldier or new to the franchise, the visceral combat and cinematic campaign are built to impress. But what’s more is that not only will fans of the Gears of War series enjoy it on Xbox and PC, but for the first time, the series will make its appearance on the PlayStation 5.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – August 28, 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

Developer/Publisher: Konami
Genre: Stealth Action

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Key Art

One of the most beloved stealth games of all time is being rebuilt from the ground up. I’m sure you know that the site is named after Metal Gear, but would you believe I’ve never played Snake Eater? I was going to dive into it when it dropped in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, but once Konami announced the remake, I knew I had to wait to experience it in all its glory.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 – August 5, 2025 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch 2)

Developer/Publisher: CyberConnect2 / SEGA
Genre: Fighting

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2

Tanjiro and the Hashira return in a new arena fighter that expands the original with new arcs, characters, and deeper mechanics. Fans of the anime and competitive fighting games should look forward to stunning visuals, emotional storytelling, and smoother online play. It’s a demon-slaying sequel built for hype and heart.

So, there you have it—a stacked lineup of must-play games this month. Hopefully, your bank account is ready for another beating, or at the very least, you’re making the most of Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass. I can’t wait to dive into Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The only downside, at least for me? I’m heading to PAX West 2025 to cover the event for the outlet, so I won’t get much time to play either of them right away. But when I get back, it’s so on.
