Atomfall’s Wicked Isle DLC Arrives This Week

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Atomfall Wicked Isle DLC

British survival game Atomfall will see its first DLC arrive this Tuesday. Entitled Wicked Isle, the extra content will expand the world of the alternate-history version of the Lake District. Atomfall draws inspiration from 1960s and 70s British speculative fiction. And it looks like Wicked Isle will be no different, as the trailer gives off major Wicker Man vibes.

This story expansion will see players taking a detour from Wyndham and the surrounding area, where they uncover what went wrong at the Windscale Plant. Atomfall has various flavors to it, from science-fiction to mystery. But Wicked Isle will really lean into the folk horror genre.

Once players procure the DLC, they’ll then have access to the story expansion set on Midsummer Island. To access the island, players will first have to reach the village of Wyndham. Once they do, they’ll talk to the boat-keeper there. He’ll ferry players over to the island. And what’s more, he’ll provide information and even the first lead.

Instead of traditional quests, Atomfall uses a lead system for players to decide what paths of inquiry to follow. The game takes a hands off approach to guidance, letting players complete objectives by following whichever leads they’re most interested in. Following one lead can sometimes block off another, as leads lead to making allies and choosing who to side with in your journey.

We largely praised this system in our Atomfall review, as we noted that “a high degree of freedom lets you choose what kind of adventure you want to have.” And while the hands off approach does have “some small downsides” it also “leads to an incredibly inventive survival game.”

Atomfall’s Wicked Isle DLC arrives this Tuesday, June 3rd for $19.99. It also comes included in the Deluxe Edition of the game. The Wicked Isle DLC will be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

A big fan of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, Andrew loves great stories and any and all things horror flavored. He also works in the world of interactive theater, its own kind of gaming. Andrew gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
