Apple TV 4 To Have $200 Price Point?

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieAugust 30, 2015

In the words of Doug Funnie’s neighbor, Bud Dink, the Apple TV is about to become:

9to5 Mac has reported that with the debut of the Apple TV 4 less than 2 weeks away, sources have stated that the new Apple TV will have a sub-$200 price point, making this the most expensive Apple TV to date.

Their sources also stated that the device “is on track to become available in October.,” and that Apple executives are apparently still “finalizing the price,” but are expected to price the Apple TV at either $149 or $199, thus making this generation’s Apple TV set-top box the most expensive to date. Sources also state that the new Apple TV will be slightly larger and thicker than the 3rd-generation device.

The next-generation Apple TV is set to have several new features, such as Siri voice command support, a new remote, an app store with a Software Development Kit for developers, as well as a refreshed UI.

Apple is also set to have a new streaming cable-replacement service, set to be released sometime on 2016, for as low as $40/month, but consumers will still have to perform an initial cable provider login on the new device to unlock content.

The third-generation Apple TV will only be getting access to the new streaming service by Apple, but not its new App Store, nor Siri support. This version of the set-top box is currently $69.

Apple plans to unveil the new Apple TV at its September 9th event, along with its new Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
