Nintendo announced on Thursday that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be getting a Switch 2 upgrade in a new trailer. Nintendo also announced a free 3.0 update for Switch 1 players. The Switch 2 edition of the game will include improved visuals thanks to enhanced resolution, making images appear significantly sharper. Switch 2 players will also be able to make use of the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. This makes redecorating your house far easier. This also allows for seamless creation of custom designs.
In addition to the visual bump, the update also includes enhanced online support. Previously, a maximum of 8 players could be on an island at once, but this improvement increases the cap to 12. However, it appears that all 12 players need to have the Switch 2 edition, not just the host. All 12 players will also be able to chat at once using GameChat.
Nintendo Switch 2 players can purchase the digital or physical versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game for $64.99. However, if you already own a Switch copy of the game, you can buy the upgrade pack for just $4.99. The Switch 2 edition will launch on January 15.
But that’s not all, Nintendo also announced that all players will have access to version 3.0 for free, which also launches on January 15. The highlight of this update is a new building called the Resort Hotel, which aims to bring in new guests to your island instead of permanent residents. Just like with your house, you get to fully decorate the rooms.
The maximum number of items you can store is also being increased from 5,000 to 9,000, which is a huge improvement. You can also store things like trees and shrubs. But my favorite new feature is the addition of dream islands. When you fall asleep, you have the option to enter a slumber island, which is a separate island from your main island that you can design.
It’s a second island that you have full control over, and you can invite friends, who will also have control to make building easier. Animal Crossing New Horizons might be more than five years old, but the fun is only just starting. You can watch the full trailer below.
