Angel’s Egg to Make World Premiere at Cannes Film Festival

By Josh PiedraMay 13, 2025
Angel's Egg

Last year, we reported that Angel’s Egg was going to receive a 4K Remaster. The anime then made its way to North American theaters. Now, at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Angel’s Egg will make its world premiere on the world stage! It will be screened during the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinema de la Plage section on May 20.

Cinema de la Plage translates to Cinema on the Beach which is exactly as it sounds… a giant screen set up on a beach so you can enjoy the sands and some movies at the same time. Movies are shown for free at 9:30 PM every night.

Angel’s Egg (Tamago no Tenshi) debuted originally in 1985 as an OVA. It’s story is described as follows:

In a submerged city, a young girl continues to care for a large egg that she holds preciously in her arms. She believes it is the egg of an angel. A boy with a huge gun alights from a peculiar chariot. He is in search of the bird he saw in his dream. In an abandoned city, it seems as if a faint sense of sympathy has developed between the two, however one night, the boy crushes the girl’s egg.
