It’s the final week for residency at the 2300 Arena, and we have a great AEW Dynamite recap to do. So, with that in mind, let’s get right to it!
The crowd started out hot by giving the “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson a warm welcome. He is now full-time on commentary! It looks like he even got an adorable haircut for the special occasion.
The first match was a rematch between Hangman and Josh Alexander, who first fought earlier this year in the Owen Hart Cup! What a great match. I really like how Josh is getting more opportunities to show how good he is. The crowd is trying to egg on Josh by calling him ‘bald’, but that only works on Ricobald. I liked the banter going on between Bryan and Don Callis from the announce desk. Both of these guys sure love fighting on the apron. I cringed when Hangman executed that Saito suplex on Josh’s surgically repaired neck on the concrete. I just hope that he’s ok. Hangman won the match with a Buckshot Lariat.
…but that wasn’t the end of things…
After the match, Hangman cut an impassioned promo but was interrupted by the “Protostar” Kyle Fletcher. He wanted to know if Hangman would accept his match request for All Out. The crowd was obsessed with the fact Kyle didn’t wear socks for some reason. Hangman explained Kyle isn’t ready to face him but is willing to give him a shot at ALL OUT! But he outlined two conditions: no interference from the Don Callis Family and wear some socks!
This is going to be a banger! Man versus Man! Hangman vs Protostar!
Afterward, MJF had a few choice words for Mark Briscoe. Mark will let him know what the stipulation would be on Collision. If I had to take a wild guess, it would be a Strap Match…or maybe a Dog Collar match! Also, props to MJF’s new bride (yes, he really did get married) for being comfortable with Maxwell talking about her like that on TV. Just saying!
Renee caught up with Matt and Nick to see what they would do if they won the $500K tag team match tonight. While being forced to sit in the jobber section, they found their longtime friend, Brandon Cutler. But even Brandon tells them off. I love it. That was a LONG time coming!
Mox came by and hyped them up by giving them the winner’s pot if they win. It’s very interesting to see Mox be so supportive of them despite certain things that have happened…
Up next was the Mercedes and Emi Sakura vs Alex Windsor and Riho. I’m so happy to see both Emi and Riho back. It’s been so long. I like the power and finesse team of Winzaa and Riho. Riho tapped out Emi with a single leg crab after a fun bout.
Ricobald and GOA talked to Renee. Bald wanted no interruptions for his match with Shelton later tonight. We’ll see how that goes.
After the Tale of the Tape video clip, FTR came out to the ring to remind us how great they are. Small Stoke is getting booed out of the building. Dax is trying to pick fights with the crowd (one of whom was a known anti-AEW guy) and ends up beating the cameraman. Poor cameraman. It’s a nice nod to that one incident when a cameraman wanted to sue AEW.
Renee caught up with The Hurt Syndicate to see what they think about Bald’s ‘gentleman’s agreement’. Shelton decided to honor the agreement. What a nice guy. That’s why he’s the “Standard of Excellence!”
The crowd was confused by the two and was chanting, “Everyone is Bald!” and “Bald Forever”. They are very observant. It’s good to see Ricochet back in 1-on-1 action. I wonder who has the prettier step-up knee strike: Shelton or Hechicero? Shelton is such a massive human being. That high crotch lift was jaw-dropping. Where does Ricobald find time to stash his scissors? And of course, GOA came out to assist Bald for the win. Chaos ensued as Bobby, MVP, and security tried to separate them.
Meanwhile, Hook is still sour about Joe replacing him. Will he accept Joe’s help in the future? Or would he rather become a lone wolf? Tune in next episode to find out!
Next up was Toni Storm vs Skye Blue in a Philly Street Fight. Toni came out by channeling her inner Sandman (who fully approves of her, by the way). The match started out with Kendo-Shots City and staple-ass Jones. Bryan said it best: “physical revulsion.” RJ City Audition Tape? It’s funny how Excalibur had to explain how a VCR operates. Uh-oh, that mouse trap table looked at both of them and proclaimed, “I AM THE TABLE!” That electric fly swatter bop to Skye’s melon was adorable. Toni pinned Skye with a package piledriver to a chair.
The AEW women always deliver when it comes to the NO DQ/Hardcore matches, which is why we want Anarchy in the Arena or Blood & Guts with them, Tony Khan!!!
The rest of the Triangle of Madness arrived, but Statlander and Hayter evened the odds. Thekla gained the upper hand and speared Toni. I can’t wait for the 4-way at All Out!
Renee talked with Willow, but Harley interfered. She wants her to team up with Statlander, but she still has trust issues. I wonder if Willow will ever find it in her heart to trust again…
The jobbers Matthew Ronjon Massie and Nicholas Lee Massie came out to their government names and the original Dynamite theme song. That was hilarious. I guess Macarena Bandido is now a thing. I would also think twice to enter the ring as well if I had to face Brody King and Powerhouse Hobbs. This is the first time that I’ve seen Claudio unable to spin an opponent. Brody is just too much to handle!
The whole match was wild, and ended when Matt pinned Bandido with an assist from Nick.
After the match, the Death Riders pummeled the OPPS, but Darby came out for the save. That Coffin Match is going to be crazy at ALL OUT! Wait, what is this? Darby is being attacked from behind by DANIEL GARCIA?! Say it isn’t so! Danny curb-stomped Darby but refused to do it on a steel chair. Oh, wait, never mind. DG has gone full heel to end the show.
Whew! What a cliffhanger! So, what did you think about tonight’s AEW Dynamite recap? Let your thoughts be heard!
