For me, Tuesdays were meant for Taco Tuesdays, but today is a special day…it’s Title Tuesday! Coming back to the home base of AEW, Daily’s Place, TK graced us tonight with a super-loaded two-and-a-half-hour Dynamite! With ongoing builds to WrestleDream, a surprise opponent for Mercedes Mone, a rare Pac vs OC treat, and the first Jurassic Express match since 2022, there are plenty of things to look forward to as I do my AEW Dynamite Recap!
Let’s jump right into the recap!
The nostalgia was hitting me hard watching AEW at the Daily’s Place again. We started off the night with Schiavone in the ring with Hangman and Sweet Tooth. Um, I mean, Samoa Joe. It was good to see Shibata back. Hangman was still at a loss as to why Joe had his panties in a bunch. He felt that he had a moral obligation to give him a shot at the championship for helping him win it. Gosh, could we all agree that Joe could cut a believable promo out of a ham sandwich? He doesn’t respect Hangman as a champion, and he wants his title back. Could he submit Hanger with a Coquina Clutch? We are eating good next Saturday, folks…
Alicia caught up with Mark Briscoe and the Conglomeration to hype all of their matches tonight. Could we get all hands in the huddle for a “whoaaaa, Conglomeration?” Everyone was in (including Alicia) except the sour and salty Roddy. He’s probably salty because he was the only one who didn’t have a match tonight. Stop hating Roddy!
The first match of the night was between Mox vs Ishii. The crowd was really pulling for Ishii. With the Deathriders lingering about, the Stone Pitbull was in an unfavorable situation. This was a very stiff match. Ishii was bleeding buckets from his nose. Ishii might be the only wrestler who could no-sell a delayed pile driver, and the crowd would still cheer. Moxley submitted Ishii after a Deathrider. Although this was a good appetizer to start off the show, my favorite match between them is still at the G1 Climax 29. You could watch that full match here.
Backstage, Renee caught the Broke Bucks pounding on TK’s door. Nick NEEDED a money match. That made me chuckle. How many times did you hear me talk about how there are too many money matches? Anyway, they will keep an eye out for the Jurassic Express match from afar. I see where this is going…
Next was a street fight between The Demand vs The Hurt Syndicate. At first, when I heard about the street fight, I thought it was going to be something like The Best Friends vs Santana & Ortiz back in 2020. That was super dangerous. I’m glad that they went this route instead
Even in a street fight, The Hurt Syndicate came out dressed to impress. Are they going to a banquet afterwards? Both teams started off hot. Ricobald had the nerve to slap MVP. Bad move Jones. Bald was able to recover and landed a beautiful running front flip. As Ricobald attempted to land a shooting star press onto Shelton, lying on the table, we had a “I AM THE TABLE!” moment. Lashley sacrificed his dress shirt throughout the whole match!
This was a good back-and-forth bout with lots of big moments. In the end, The Hurt Syndicate got their revenge when they singled out Bald. Will we get a “rubber match” at WrestleDream? We’ll find out soon…
Renee interviewed the busload of wrestlers that the Don Callis Family brought in. Don hyped up the future match between Josh and Ibushi on Collision. He also mentioned the matches tonight between “Mark Kyle” vs Kyle and Team Cinnabon Okada. Don is insufferable. I am waiting on pins and needles to see how the DFC implodes…
The third match saw the return of Jurassic Express vs KM and a jobber. Sing it Taz! As promised, the Broke Bucks were watching from afar. Ooh, I want a Jurassic Park beach ball! I would never get tired of watching their finisher, Countdown to Extinction. After the match, shenanigans occurred when the Broke Bucks gave some payback from last week. They announced a challenge for Wrestle Dream! I’m hyped for that match! UPDATE: The match has a 500K stipulation! I’m sure Nick was elated!
Deathriders were backstage with a dry PAC. Hey, PAC and Garcia, you could proclaim yourselves as “winners” all you want, but if you have to cheat to win, doesn’t that make you guys losers after all? A-haa!
The fourth match was Kyleception. Mark Kyle vs Kylelander. There can only be one! Their first encounter was a blast. “Let’s go Kyle, Kyle sucks” rained down from the crowd. O’ Reilly was surgically grounding Fletcher, but Fletcher drilled him with a Michinoku driver. Sweep the leg, Kyle, sweep the leg! In the end, Fletcher pinned him with two sheer drop brain busters. What a great match. I wish they would revisit this at the C2!
After the match, Rocky and Archer attacked Kyle, but Roddy and Ishii came in for the save. Briscoe showed up and was the equalizer. Fletcher stood eye to eye with Briscoe.
Backstage, Renee was prodding Kyle about running away from Briscoe. Both have two wins apiece. TK announced the rubber match will happen at Wrestle Dream! Let’s gooo!
The fifth match was an open challenge for Mercedes Mone’s TBS Championship. There were rumors about who might be challenging her all week. My best guesses were Shotzi and Dakota. Some others even mentioned Izzy Moreno!
But nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would’ve guessed Lacey Lane. Mercedes dished out some disrespect while Lacey held her own with a hair whip. Lacey’s kicks looked crisp. As much as she had thrown everything but the kitchen sink at Mercedes, it still wasn’t enough. Mercedes picked up another W.
It may not have been “the match that people wanted,” but it was a good match! Lacey lane came to play, and it says a lot that TK picked her for this match and not someone else.
I wonder who will challenge Mone at Wrestle Dream? My guess would be the tried and true, Hikaru Shida.
Sammy was showing his worth in LFI by helping Beast Mortos cut a promo for this Saturday, when he faces Eddie Kingston. Let’s goooo! RaWR. You know, TK, Mortos could cut promos as well. Just allow him to RaWR with subtitles on. Think about it!
The sixth match was the double jeopardy eliminator match between Brodido and Cinnabon Okada. Due to the stipulation in this match, the stakes are super high. Bandido was coming back from a dislocated shoulder courtesy of Hechicero last week. TK had mentioned that he was going to power through. What a guy. That’s our Ring of Honor champ!
With that in mind, Bandido was feeling the effects of his damaged shoulder throughout the match. Brody had to carry the load. I loved the constant tease of disdain emanating from Okada and Takeshita. Miscommunication and miscues were seen throughout the match. This rivalry is like a 3-month-long slow-cooked pot roast. I love it. Takeshita showed pure power as he hoisted the burly Brody with a rolling German suplex. Okada stole the win from Takeshita to seal the win.
So now that Okada secured the pin, does that mean that he has to team up with Cinnabon again? Why, yes. Yes, he will. They will have to do it again at Wrestle Dream! This is going to be fun! While Bandido felt as though he let his tag partner down, Brody cheered him up and vowed to walk out with the belts next Saturday!
Renee talked to Jetspeed and Willow about their match this Saturday vs FTR and Megan. Kevin Knight has been hitting the gym lately.
Meanwhile, FTR, Small Stokley, Penelopes, and Megan responded with promos of their own.
I am glad to see Megan get more promo time. Top Guys and Megan down, Jetspeed and Willow up!
The main event was between PAC vs Orange Cassidy. OC agreed to leave the Conglomeration backstage, but will PAC do the same with the Deathriders? Newsflash: PAC is wet and looked more jacked than he did before he left! He also had a singlet on à la Bret.
The crowd was asleep at the beginning of the match. PAC displayed power by catching OC and executing a Falcon Arrow. Cassidy fought from behind and landed a top rope ‘hands in pocket’ dive to the table. PAC performed a nice callback to their original AEW Revolution match when he rolled away from OC. While performing a vicious tombstone to OC in the crowd, a wild Darby appeared to chain PAC to the guardrail. Could he beat the count? He did, but Cassidy took advantage and secured the victory.
After the match, Darby and PAC duke it out. Did Darby mace PAC? Instead of the flame thrower, he had another equalizer tonight: a taser. What’s this? A Molotov cocktail? Darby had all kinds of goodies tonight. The show ended with security hauling away both parties.
Their “I Quit” match at WrestleDream will be nuts, no doubt.
