It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Since this is WrestleDream week, AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision have combined forces to give us a 3-hour supershow! So, I’ll start things off with the AEW Dynamite Recap and then go right into the Collision recap! You ready?
There’s a lot to cover tonight!!!
We started off the show with Renee having a sit-down chat with Toni and Stat. Things heated up quickly as the two gals started taking their clothes off. LOL, and Renee followed suit! Toni stated that she had no identity without the title and was willing to go the distance in order to get it back. I really liked the camera angles. Stat-Daddy retorts by claiming that she had evolved (like a Pokémon) from her past experiences and would gladly hand her another L.
These two just couldn’t keep their hands off of each other, so both headed to the ring. Fists of fury commenced. Is security in catering? Toni offered Kris the belt in order to give her a free cheap shot. Kris had too much honor for that, so Toni gave her a headbutt instead. Now Kris offered the belt so Toni could beat her. She refused and kissed her forehead instead. These two babyfaces are just too much.
Many want these two to be the main event of WrestleDream…and I’m not opposed to that…
The first match was a tag team meat match between The Hurt Syndicate vs GOA. In my opinion, GOA is the only team in AEW that could give The Hurt Syndicate a run for their money. Bobby was so over with the fans. Bishop is a big dude, but Shelton and Bobby made him look small. Shelton stopped on a dime to execute that rising knee to Ricobald. A word of advice, Shelton…never try to DDT a Samoan. Wow, that double clothesline looked stiff. Thanks to shenanigans from Ricobald, Bishop pinned Shelton for the win. This was a great appetizer for their Wrestledream trio’s rematch…which has now been elevated to a Tornado Trios Match!
Then we saw the segment of the night…
Wow, what a visual…and what a presentation! The air was palpable. This was like watching a thriller movie. Moxley and Darby talked to each other face-to-face through a pane of glass as if they were in jail?! Mox ran down the implications of an “I Quit” match while we saw Darby’s reflection staring intently towards him. Darby was still livid about how Mox retired Danielson. Mox reminded Darby that he’s only chasing ghosts of his past, and it was never about Mox. Soon after, PAC viciously attacked Darby until he bled. I know Halloween is around the corner, guys, but this is some dark stuff. LOL.
The second match was between Claudio Castagnoli and Roderick Strong.
The second match was between Claudio Castagnoli and Roderick Strong. These guys have a long history with each other, and both of them have stiff wrestling styles. The Backbreaker Messiah had a taste of his own medicine when Claudio converted an arm carry backbreaker, similar to Roddy’s hip toss move. Roddy fought back by dumping Claudio on the apron, but was tossed by a giant swing to the barrier. Roddy was so crafty with his backbreaker moves. He performed one on the apron, the barricade, and the top rope. In the end, Claudio was too powerful. He hoisted Roderick up for a Swiss Death to finish him off.
We saw Don celebrating his birthday with the DCF. No, Don is not a Jolly Good Fellow. Takeshita wasn’t able to join them because he was doing other big things elsewhere. Okada is so salty that he accidentally “pressed the button“. What a callback.
The third match was between Jungle Express and Kenny vs. “Big Dumper” Mark Davis, Hechicero, and Josh Alexander. Wow, Hechicero did a nasty-looking leg crank on Kenny. I would love to see a match between Kenny and Josh at WrestleDream. That would be fire. There was a big disparity in size when Big Dumper and Jack were in the ring. Kenny needs to have Jack do a trust fall test. How cute, Jungle Jack was a human shield for Kenny. Jurassic Express took Hechiceros’ head off for the victory.
After the match, the Broke Bucks attacked Jurassic Express. Kenny saved Jack from a TK Driver. While the Broke Bucks were arguing with Kenny, they were walloped by Luchasaurus. Jack splashed on the heels with a beautifully assisted rope moonsault. That match this weekend is going to be amazing!
The fourth match was between Skye Blue and Jamie Hayter. Jamie needed to check for the Triangle of Madness hiding in the bushes. Jamie was giving a serious beating to Skye. She’s just so strong and stiff. Jamie shouldn’t have egged on Julia. That fallaway slaw looked brutal! “This is awesome,” chants were present, which I loved. I also loved that the match went over 10 minutes! Hayter won with a Hayterade.
After the match, Thekla cut a promo on Hayter backstage. It was great to hear from Thekla. I want to hear more! She wasn’t there tonight because she was clearing her visa in Mexico.
“Ultimo” Mone was interviewed by Renee. She’s set to wrestle Persephone to defend the CMLL Amazonas Championship on Friday. She’s also excited to be the longest TBS Champion on the same day. Well, it seemed like she’s not going to wrestle at WrestleDream. That’s a bummer. At least she’s going to show up. My gut instinct is that someone will meet her there for a stare-down. But who could it be…?
The fifth match was for the AEW World Trios Championship with the Opps vs L.F.I. Hanger was on commentary, so this was going to be spicy afterward. Meat started the match between Hobbs and Mortos. Shibata and Rush loved chopping each other. Shibata’s head collided with the bottom rope. Those ‘ropes’ are actually steel cables. That looked awful. After a hard-fought battle, Joe was able to submit Dralistico.
I was surprised that this ended so cleanly, but at least the trio’s titles were defended, which is what many fans have wanted.
After the match, LFI attacked the OPPS. Rush spat on Hangman (because he felt like it), so he got involved. Bad idea, Rush! Joe and Hangman met face-to-face in the ring. It’s going to get really spicy at WrestleDream!
Now we switch to the Collision portion…
The sixth match was between OC and Kyle O’ Reilly vs Yoots and Garcia. I could kind of see Yuta’s forehead, so he’s no longer a Human Shit-Tzu. All four guys were evenly matched. OC’s lazy chops had me laughing. I would never consider taking an outside suplex. It looks and sounds devastating. That barricade brain buster was gnarly. Fans are not fond of Yoots. Marina Sharif, PAC, and Claudio were playing hooligans tonight. Doesn’t Bryce hear Daniel tapping out? Anyway, Daniel pinned Kyle.
After the match, the Death Riders resumed the attack. The Conglomeration tried to assist but was beaten. Mox had taken the mic to confuse us with more riddles, but a zombie Darby limped out. Claudio delivered a vicious uppercut. Thanks for coming, Darby. He tried getting up, but PAC kicked him down. Oh, I see where it was going. Darby will NEVER quit!
More Conglomeration arrived to chase the Death Riders away. Mox was face-to-face again with Darby. Oh, he brought the AEW flag that he planted at Mt. Everest. Darby grabbed the mic and told Mox that it’s never too late for him to quit. Mox gave him a Death Rider Jones for the trouble. Honestly, I’m kind of scared of what they’re going to do at the upcoming match.
The seventh match was with Megan Bayne and Harley Cameron. Why do Stoke and FTR have to be out there as well? Megan cutting a promo was a nice touch. She was talking trash to Willow. The seeds were planted for a future match! I don’t want to listen to BaldFTR. Phew, Jetspeed Babes saved us. Ohh, Willow and Harley landed a DDT on the Megasus! Willow also landed a brain buster to Dax. We want more of that, please!
This might be the break that Harley needed to beat her. Why was Bayne trying to do a moon sault? What? Harley kicked out of Fate’s Descent?! How? In the end, Megan proved to be too powerful as she finished her with a running power bomb. Good try, Harley.
Eddie and Hook were seeking some tag team action at the Tailgate Brawl. Who’s going to answer the call?
Anthony Bowens and Max Caster HATES it when they’re called “The Acclaimed.” So, let’s call them The Acclaimed, shall we?
The main event was the DCF (Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, Rocky Romero) vs Brodido and Mark Briscoe. This match had everything. We had the build for Kyle vs Mark 5, big men slapping meat, and Mark Briscoe performed the Macarena with Bandido. Would we also get to see Brody finally do it? Absolutely not. After a fun contest, Rocky took the L thanks to Brodido.
After the match, Kyle and Mark brawled on stage. The lights started flickering. It’s El Clon! But Okada snuck from behind to attack Brodido! Rainmakerrrrr! Okada ended the show with those tag titles held high!
Phew, what a show. This was a great go-home show to WrestleDream. What did you think of the show? And what did you think of my AEW Dynamite Recap…and the Collision recap? Please, let your thoughts be known by leaving your comments below!
