Guess who’s back, back again. Jen is back. Tell a friend. Once again, AEW Collision is back live this week, this time in the 2300 Arena. So, sit back, relax, and let’s get right into my AEW Collision Recap!
Danny Garcia headed to the ring to face ‘Vanilla Baby’ Blake Christian. Before the match started, Mox fed some words to Danny. Maybe he’s trying to rile him up or insert his influence on him? After the Death Riders slithered back to the shadows, the match started off with Blake heeling it up. Garcia gained the upper hand by delivering a devastating spiked piledriver for the win.
After the match, Tony Schiavone interviewed DG. He still wants a piece of Mox. Yuta came out and told him to be careful what he wished for. I mean, who are we kidding here? Do we really think Danny will listen to the human shit-tzu? So, next week it’s on: Danny vs Mox on AEW Collision. Let’s see if DG has learned a thing or two from his last encounter. Will this be his way of getting “indoctrinated” into the Death Riders, like Yuta was into the Blackpool Combat Club a few years back? one way to find out…
Backstage, Lexi catches up with the Conglomeration (Kyle O’ Reilly, Roderick Strong, and Tomohiro Ishii). Roddy is being protective of Kyle being friends with the Conglomeration. This slow burn is eventually going to boil over. I can’t wait to see what happens! KYLE!
In the second match, Kyle O’ Reilly and Tomohiro Ishii came out to face DCF’s Kyle Fletcher and Josh Alexander. The crowd really loves doing the “Let’s go, Kyle, Kyle sucks” chants whenever Kyle O’ Reilly and Kyle Fletcher face off. It works, so who am I to judge? I’d chant it, too, if I was there!
It looks like Fletchlight was bleeding from his brow after a kick to the face. I liked seeing Alexander pull off a moonsault from the top rope. It’s a thing of beauty. The Guillotine choke hold that O’ Reilly applied to Josh was masterfully countered by an ankle lock. The match finished with a low blow to Ishii, followed by Alexander’s C4 Spike. Josh and Fletcher pick up the W.
Moving on, security had their hands full as Jamie Hayter and Thekla continued their hatred with each other backstage. Could this feud lead to All Out? What if it turns into a 3-way match with Queen Aminata involved? And where is the women’s Blood & Guts, Tony Khan?!!?!?
We also saw Mother Wayne playing peacemaker as pretty boy Kip Sabian is still upset at Killswitch for their loss at Forbidden Door. Cry me a river, Kip. I think this storyline picks up once Nick Wayne recovers from his injury and Jack Perry comes back. It’s only a matter of time before our Scapegoat returns…
Match number three was Jay Lethal vs Hologram. We started out with dueling dives to the outside. I was surprised to see Hologram apply a submission hold. There were some miscues in the match, but it wasn’t too glaring. Hologram won with a Portal Bomb, keeping his undefeated streak alive.
After the match, there was a tease that Hologram might have been compromised by hackers and had somehow been cloned. Could this be ‘El Clon’?
El Clon is rumored to be Arez.
Arez has history dating back to be Holograms’ rival. If this is the case, it would be a wonderful addition to the All Out PPV!
Then we see a promo that involved Ricobald and GOA (the SPTG=single pec tattoo guys) explaining their hate towards The Hurt Syndicate. This would most likely lead to a match at ALL OUT. I’m here for it!
The fourth match (yes, already) was with Alex Windsor vs Ashley Vox. It was a quick squish match. Alex finished Ashley off with a combination of moves: trap fisherman suplex, blue thunder bomb, sit-out powerbomb, and a sharpshooter. Phew!
Schiavone came out after the match and talked to WINZAA. She’s not too happy about Mercedes Mone talking trash about Ospreay, and she wants to beat her. So, that match is happening next week on Dynamite. I’m glad this is happening quickly, as it highlights once again how AEW consistently strives to deliver quality wrestling at every show.
Lexi went backstage to broker a chat with Don Callis and Mark Briscoe. Mark really wants a shot to face Kyle Fletcher for his TNT Championship. Don won’t give it to him unless he defeats one of his goons first. Who would it be? I think it would shape up to be Mark vs Kyle for the TNT Championship at ALL OUT. They’ve had a great series of matches so far, so this will be a good one, no doubt!
The fifth match was FTR vs Adam Priest and JD Drake. Hmm, where’s Anthony Henry? (Editor’s Note: He apparently had a family event that prevented him from coming to the show! Go figure!) Tony Khan really likes Adam Priest, and I can see why. Apparently, he also loves guys that is named Adam. ADAM!!!!!
This whole match was built on the anticipation of JD Drake executing his beautiful moonsault. And I must say, we were not disappointed! But FTR grabbed the win in the end.
But guess what happened after the match? You guessed it. Schiavone came back to the ring to interview FTR. They go on to promote their upcoming match with C&C Wrestle Factory at ALL OUT.
I have to stop and gripe about this. This is the 3rd time in the same show that had a promo right after they finished the match. It’s a bit repetitive, and that’s a problem. Last week’s AEW Collision had a better flow to it. The matches looked like they had time to breathe. They have to fix this moving forward.
We flashed back to what happened at the ROH: Death Before Dishonor PPV. If you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for? It’s free on youtube. Sammy turned his back on the Von Erichs and aligned himself with Rush and Los Faccion Ingobernable (LFI). With Dustin being out with an injury, I think this is the best direction for Sammy, so kudos.
We have a follow-up backstage with Don, Kyle, and Josh hyping up their All-Star 4-on-4 match next week against Hangman, Kenny, and Jetspeed. Just take my money!
Match 6 was Big Bill vs Juice Robinson. Big Bill and Bryan Keith were upset that the Bang Bang Gang won the 200K tag team match on 7/19. Let it go, guys. Well, at least Big Bill got their revenge as he pins Juice.
Sky Flight wants to get serious and aim for those ROH Trios titles that STP recently obtained. We’ll see how that goes.
Afterwards, we heard from Gabe Kidd. He had sampled a tiny bit of Darby Allin at Forbidden Door, and he wants more. I’m thinking this could lead to a future 1-on-1 match. I’m surprised that Gabe Kidd has been featured on AEW so much recently, but clearly New Japan doesn’t mind, and Gabe likes being there with Mox, so it’s all good in the end!
As serious as Gabe sounds, we see Darby promoting a skate park in his neighborhood. I nearly spat out my drink. The guy has no care in the wrestling world and is living his best life.
The 7th and final match was the women’s trios match between ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, and Queen Aminata vs Skye Blue, Julia Hart, and Billie Starkz. I’m glad to see Aminata back in the States after what happened to her in the UK. During the match, it looked like Julia Hart busted up her nose as she was tasting her own blood. Let’s hope she’s ok. Mina finished the match with a Glamorous Driver for the win. Seriously, go watch Death Before Dishonor so you can see another great Mina match with her versus Athena! Women’s match of the year contender for sure.
After the match, chaos ensued as Thekla spears everyone in the match. Triangle of Madness stands tall to close the show.
Well, that’s all, folks. What were your favorite moments of the night? What say you about my AEW Collision Recap? Let your thoughts be heard!
