Hello again, everyone! This week’s AEW Dynamite helped build up to today’s Forbidden Door show, but last night’s great AEW Collision from Glasgow was catered to the AEW Sickos! Back once again is the incredible Jen, and I’m here to give you my AEW Collision recap of everything that happened in the show!
We started the show with the heat magnet, Don Callis, introducing Hechicero with his obnoxious butchering of the Spanish language:
It’s hilarious to me that this has gotten over with the crowd, but hey, whatever works, right?
The rest of the Don Callis Family, Josh Alexander, Rocky Romero, and Lance Archer, came out to face Sky Flight (Scorpio Sky and Top Flight) and Hiromu Takahashi. The fans give Hechicero loud cheers. I like the Dragon Sleeper that Scorpio Sky locks in. After Sky Flight goes for a trio of dives, Hiromu comes in the clutch and pins Rocky. Afterwards, TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher made an appearance to hype his match with Hiromu at Forbidden Door. That match could be a legit banger if given the proper time!
Afterwards, we got a fun Hook vignette featuring his toy figures in stop motion. It was a very creative way to hype up Hooks’ return. I’m excited!!!
Renee then highlighted each woman for the upcoming TBS Champion 4-way match at Forbidden Door. It will be Mercedes Mone vs Alex Windsor vs Persephone vs Bozilla. I’m rooting for Bozilla to win. She’s a 6-foot, 201-pound powerhouse, and I love imposing wrestlers!
Next match was Megan Bayne vs a debuting Isla Dawn. I must say that I was impressed with the hometown favorite, Isla. She showed great charisma and has a good look. She was getting a some good offense in as well as time within the match. In the end, Bayne was too strong and finished her with a running Liger Bomb. After the match, Willow came down early for her match and irked Megan in the process. Is that an Ian Ricabboni Willow rap I hear? I guess he did it because ‘Grumpy Jones’ Taz wouldn’t allow him if he were there. Oh, Taz…
…but I digress.
Queen Animata joined Willow to face Triangle of Madness’ Skye Blue and Julia Hart. Big shout out goes to Dani for making that amazing titantron.
Queen Animata is really coming into her own. The running Air Raid crash that Animata executed was impressive. It was also the first time I had seen her make an attempt on the top rope. She ended up pinning Skye.
After the match, Thekla, Penelope, and Megan attacked Willow. Harley made an appearance to save her but was quickly overpowered. Then Statlander comes out to make the save for Harley. This sets up a Forbidden Door 4-on-4 match of Harley, Statlander, Queen Animata, and Willow vs Triangle of Madness and Megan Bayne.
…but…can we PLEASE get the Blood & Guts women’s match announced soon? We want it, Tony Khan!!!
Backstage, Danny Garcia lamented about his loss to Nigel and his opportunity to have a match at Forbidden Door. Danny still sees Nigel as his best friend and is proud to show support ringside. I honestly think this alliance won’t last, as he will eventually see how much Nigel doesn’t respect him. Forbidden Door could see a legendary heel turn if done properly.
Next up, Max Caster arrives to make his first international open challenge. The crowd is eager to chant his ridiculous catchphrase, “LET’S GO MAX, YOU’RE THE BEST WRESTLER ALIVE!”. So, who was his opponent to survive 5 with the best wrestler alive? It was none other than the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion himself, Zack Sabre Jr. ZSJ made Max tap out in quick fashion. Naturally.
Nigel was beside himself as if he had seen a ghost. In less than 24 hours, he would have to face the best current technical wrestler in the world, ZSJ. It didn’t help that Zack was taunting him throughout the entire match.
After the match, Anthony Bowens attacked his former partner, Max Caster. Seeing how Max comes out each and every week to embarrass himself enrages Bowens. Billy Gunn came out to confront Anthony and save Max. They’re playing the “slow burn double turn” with this one, and fans seem to be into it, but let’s hope they don’t drag it out too long.
In a backstage skit, Statlander complained to Harley that she hadn’t received her $100,000 prize money from the Young Bucks. So…Mox helped her out by getting the money to her. Does this mean that Statlander now owe the Death Riders a favor? Where is this all going with Kris, Marina, Yuta & Mox? We shall see.
The match of the night had to go to Tomohiro Ishii vs the G1 Climax winner, Konosuke Takeshita. Wow, what a match! After having 12 matches in the G1 and 10 tag-team matches, I really don’t know where Takeshita gets his energy from. Both wrestlers brought the strong style intensity. There was a point where the crowd gave a standing ovation. They were fully invested in this match. What a banger!
Next was a squash match involving Big Bill vs Cardiff wrestling veteran, Mark Andrews. I don’t understand how Big Bill is so over with international fans. He is just adored. After he won, GOA interrupted his victory lap in the crowd.
GOA faces Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV). I guess tonight is the battle of tag teams. GYV impressed me with their tag team combination moves. While Ricochet was doing commentary, bald chants echoed throughout the arena. In the end, Ricochet shenanigans helped GOA pick up the victory. “Just a sec, I’m gonna go cheat!”
We cut backstage to see the War Dogs talk about their intentions. They want a piece of the OPPS Trios Championships. So, the match is set at Forbidden Door: OPPS vs War Dogs.
In the main event, Paragon faced Rod & Todd. From the Simpsons? Sure, why not?
But really, it’s the Young Bucks. Did I just see a rare Meltzer Driver? Wow, the Young Bucks are really digging deep in their old move set. Both teams were evenly matched, and in the end, they had to rely on Don Callis and Kazuchika Okada to win the match. Swerve came out to confront Okada for their upcoming match at Forbidden Door. Am I hyped for that match? Heck yes!
So, there you have it, an action-packed AEW Collision has come to an end, as has my AEW Collision Recap! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Today is Forbidden Door, so go and enjoy some great WRESTLING, everyone!
