Absolum Locks in October Release Date and Reveals New Playable Character

We’ve been talking a lot about Dotemu’s Absolum, its first original IP, and now we’re happy to see that there’s finally a release date, and it’s coming sooner than expected; October 9th, 2025. The announcement came during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live with a brand-new trailer showcasing the addition of a new playable fighter.

The spotlight was on Brome, a Mowlaï (a humanoid frog) born with innate magical talent. Brome isn’t your average brawler; he levitates across the battlefield, chaining staff-based melee combos with ranged and AoE spellcasting, and even hoverboard-style gliding. His story is rooted in tragedy, scarred by the enslavement of his people, which fuels a conflict between his spiritual upbringing and the temptation to give in to rage. With his reveal, Brome joins the growing roster of Absolum’s heroes and gives players another distinct playstyle to master.

Check out the trailer below.

When Dotemu and Guard Crush Games released Streets of Rage 4, it set the bar for modern beat ’em ups. Now, alongside co-developer Supamonks Studio, the duo is pushing into new territory with Absolum. Drawing inspiration from legendary arcade titles like Golden Axe, Guardian Heroes, and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, the game is a clear love letter to the golden age of fantasy brawlers, yet built with today’s players in mind.

This also marks Dotemu’s first fully original IP, a milestone for a studio celebrated for reviving retro classics like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. With Absolum, the team is stepping away from revitalizing old franchises and creating its own. Expectations are understandably sky-high.

Set in the original world of Talamh, Absolum mixes fluid beat ’em up combat with roguelite and RPG mechanics. Players can expect four playable heroes, each with unique fighting styles and progression paths. Branching routes, side quests, and a variety of boss encounters ensure that no two runs will feel the same.
