Fire Emblem Switch To Be “Completely Different”?

By Todd BlackMay 28, 2017
Fire Emblem Switch

Earlier this year, during a special Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that a Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Switch was already in development and was planned to release in 2018. This almost instantly got the hype train going as many wondered what Fire Emblem Switch might be like. No details have been released for the game itself, but we may know a goal of the development team.

This was revealed by Kenta Nakanishi, the director of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, who noted this about Fire Emblem Switch to Jeuxvideo:

“As it was said earlier, we’re currently working on a Fire Emblem game on Nintendo Switch. With this title designed for home consoles, we should be able to offer a completely different Fire Emblem, breathing life into our characters like never before.”

This is interesting for many reasons. One, you could argue that Fire Emblem Echoes brought new life to the characters via voice acting, so how could Fire Emblem Switch top that? The biggest option could possibly be to have more animated or 3D rendered cutscenes (not unlike what was used in previous Fire Emblem console games like Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn) to further flesh out the characters. This would be cool for many, many reasons.

Also, what could it mean by a “completely different Fire Emblem“? Are they talking story wise? Gameplay wise? Tone wise? It’s hard to say. Again, Echoes did a good job of changing the formula up, could Fire Emblem Switch do a similar thing?

It’s hard to say at present, but we hope that with E3 looming we might get some new information. Be sure to check out our review of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, and stay tuned for the next Nintendo Entertainment Podcast where we’ll break down this news and also talk about our hopes for the Nintendo Switch at E3!
