Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed Until Spring 2018

Today, Rockstar Games announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed and will not release until Spring 2018. The highly anticipated sequel to Red Dead Redemption was previously scheduled to release this fall. Since this is the first game being built exclusively for the current generation of consoles, Rockstar Games stated that they are building the game from the ground up and need more time to ensure the best experience.

Here’s a portion of the statement from Rockstar Games:

This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.

We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.

To hold fans over, they provided some new screenshots:

It’s a shame that Red Dead Redemption 2 is being pushed out until next year. If more time is what Rockstar needs for a better experience, then I’m willing to wait a few more months. So far, 2017 has already seen the release several games that will be in the game of the year discussions. So a small consolation is that there’s plenty of new games to play, and having one fewer game to debate about is a bit of a relief.

Hey, I’m looking for any positive I can.

Jon has been playing video games for a long time. His first commentary was recorded on cassette during boss fights in Final Fantasy for the NES. That tape may be lost, but his love of production, recording, and video games is not.
