Persona 5’s PS4 Sharing Features Will Remain Disabled

By Keith MitchellApril 1, 2017

While this bit of news will not affect anyone using a 3rd party capture device, such as an Elgato HD60, it does affect everyone else who doesn’t own one. Recently it’s come to everyone’s attention that Atlus has disabled the PS4 sharing features in the upcoming (in North America) Persona 5. While this isn’t exactly new info, as the Japanese version had been released for some time ( September 15, 2016)  and also featured the blocked features.

Why is it disabled?

Simply put, the Atlus didn’t want everyone uploading the story to places such as Youtube and Twitch. This could potentially spoil the story and Atlus doesn’t want that. And to be honest, it’s completely understandable.

Now, others could argue that you simply could choose not to watch the uploaded content, doing something at times is easier said than done. So Atlus has done the needful for you.  This was also confirmed by Polygon when they reached out to Atlus regarding this.

“This being a Japanese title with solely a single-playthrough story means Japan is very wary about it,” an Atlus representative said. “Sharing is currently blocked through the native PS4 UI.”

But what about the North American release? Well, sadly, the sharing options will continue to be blocked for the foreseeable future. Definitely a bit of a bummer for most, but easily defeated, if you spend the money that is. And despite all their efforts, one can easily find multiple Persona 5 gameplay videos on Youtube, Twitch and even DailyMotion.

Persona 5 will release in North America on April 4th, 2017, for both PS3 and PS4.
