Blizzard Announces StarCraft Remastered, Releasing This Summer

By Keith MitchellMarch 26, 2017

What’s old is new again, thanks, Blizzard!

Listen up all you StarCraft fans, for Blizzard has some good news for you. Recently announced is the often requested StarCraft remaster edition, StarCraft Remastered. No one even imaged that Blizzard would even attempt this, but here we go and it’s packing quite the update. Mike Morhaime make this announcement during the I Love StarCraft event, which was held in Korea.

Completely visually remastered, this update will support up to 4K resolutions, Blizzard online match matching, update audio, and support for thirteen languages. StarCraft Remastered will be available this Summer 2017. No word if this will be free or the pricing just yet.

This is actually great news, especially for the fans of the original title. No changes to the units, no changes to balances, nothing. Just the original StarCraft as we remember it. Blizzard has launched a StarCraft Remastered website so that you can see all of the cool stuff that’s coming with the game. Plus you’ll be able to see the comparisons between the original StarCraft and the upcoming remastered edition.

Sadly, this looks to be  PC only affair. I was hopefully that this would at least hit the PS4 and Xbox One.

But that wasn’t all that was announced. Mike also shared news regarding StarCraft HD or Broodwars. The game will get a new patch 118. Includes in this patch will be several features and bug fixes, as well as an observer mode (spectator), improved anti-cheat measures. The game will also be patched to work with more modern operating systems, such as Windows 10. Expect news to come regarding this update soon.

Hopefully, this means we’ll eventually get a WarCraft III remaster down the road. C’mon Blizzard, please say yes!
