Nintendo Working On Joy-Con Issues, Offers Temporary Solutions

By Todd BlackMarch 5, 2017
Nintendo Switch Joy-Con

So, there’s been cases in regards to the Nintendo Switch about how the Joy-Con controllers, specifically the left one, hasn’t been functioning fully at times. Now, while this hasn’t happened to every person (for example, I have had no such issues, neither has Tyler or Will here at Outerhaven), it is a large enough sample size for people to take notice, and thus, Nintendo is working on the problem.

The main issue is that the Joy-Con emits a signal to the console, regardless of mode you are playing in, and sometimes the signal doesn’t connect. While a more permanent solution is being made, here are some things Nintendo suggests you do in the meantime to try and get the problems to get sorted out:

  1. Ensure your console has the latest system update.
  2. Ensure the Joy-Con controllers are charged.
  3. Try to decrease the distance between the Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch console.
  4. Ensure that the Nintendo Switch console is placed to minimize interference with the Joy-Con. It is best if the Nintendo Switch console is placed out in the open and that it is not:

    • Behind a TV
    • Near an aquarium
    • Placed in or under a metal object
    • Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
    • Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
  5. Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices, such as:
    • Cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc.
    • Wireless headsets
    • Wireless printers
    • Microwaves
    • Wireless speakers
    • Cordless phones
    • USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc

If all else fails, the Pro Controller is out there, and you can use that without fail as it’s a different kind of controller. But hopefully, you won’t have to go that far, and just as hopefully, Nintendo will fix the problems soon so that we can enjoy our Joy-Con’s and Nintendo Switch’s without issue.
