Eiji Aonuma To Keep Making Legend of Zelda Games

By Todd BlackFebruary 23, 2017
Eiji Aonuma, Breath of the Wild

Eiji Aonuma is nowadays just as synonymous with Legend of Zelda as creator Shigeru Miyamoto. He was the mastermind behind recent Zelda titles like Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and the upcoming Breath of the Wild. He’s been a part of the series for even longer than that though.

With such a pedigree, you have to wonder whether the legendary producer would want to make other unique titles within Nintendo, such as what Miyamoto has done over his career. But as Nintendo of Europe found out in an interview, he’s fine with just doing Zelda:

“As I get closer to the retirement age, people ask me if I’m ever going to make anything other than a Zelda game. And so sometimes I think maybe I should. But Zelda games really have everything in them that I would want to make in a game. The way the main character grows and develops. The puzzles and the minigames. I don’t think there’s much point in me making something other than Zelda, if I did it would only end up being something just like it. It’s a problem. So I think I’ll just keep making Zelda games!”

This is fine with us, especially since he has stated that he didn’t use the Switch’s full power when making Breath of the Wild, we can’t wait to see what Eiji Aonuma comes up with next.
