Beam Rolling Out to Xbox Insiders Today

By Keith MitchellFebruary 17, 2017

Today, Beam finally is being rolled out to those lucky enough to be part of Xbox Insider program. Definitely good news for the Xbox gamers. And while I may be a bit biased here, I really like the feature set of Beam. The streamer/audience interaction is simply an amazing idea, while the streaming delay is better than most services. We’re talking 1-2 seconds of delay. And while the Xbox One doesn’t support it, on the PC side of things, if you enable FTL, your streams become nearly instantaneous.

If you’re part of the Xbox Insiders and have received the update, it’s pretty easy to get started. Just fire up your Xbox One, navigate to the Beam app and you’ll be provided code to enter on the Beam website. If you don’t have a Beam account already, then your Xbox Gamertag will provide that function.

Once you’re in a game, all you have to do is open up the broadcast option via the guide and away you go. You can choice to enable/disable your camera (Kinect), microphone and even chat ability. You can even move your streaming overlay as well. Currently, the service only supports up to 720p for streaming. However, Microsoft has confirmed that 1080p support is coming as well.

If you didn’t get in yet, not to worry. The Beam streaming will be available to everyone once the April Creator Update is available for Windows 10 and Xbox One. This update will also provide everyone access to the updated Xbox One UI, once available.
