“Twin Peaks” Season 3 Trailers Tight-Lipped on Plot

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJanuary 22, 2017

Twin Peaks is one of those shows people watch over and over again to try and understand all the weird nuances in director David Lynch’s style. From the weird inhabitants of the Washington city to the bizarre string of events leading up and after the murder of Laura Palmer. The show was cancelled in 1992, but thankfully, fans are finally getting the conclusion they always wanted.

Many of the cast will be returning to the little town of mystery and creepiness. Kyle MacLachlan will return as protagonist FBI agent Dale Cooper and Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer. Lynch will even make an appearance as Agent Cole, who had some serious hearing problems. Even Michael Ferrer and Catherine E. Coulson were able to finish reprising their roles on the show before their untimely deaths. The show was originally going to air in 2016, but was pushed back to premiere in 2017.

Several actors chose not to come back and reprise their roles in the new season, including: Piper Laurie, Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael J. Anderson, Joan Chen, Michael Ontkean, Eric Da Re, and Heather Graham. Whether their roles will be re-cast or if those characters will conveniently be written out of the story, no one can be sure. Still, there are tons of new actors coming into the show, like Jim Belushi, Michael Cera, Laura Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, and Amanda Seyfried.

There are a lot of questions as to what’s happen in the interim. Is Cooper still possessed by Bob? Will we get to see the effects of the trip through the lodge? Who will be dead? What are the owls exactly? Will the diner still be the meeting place for every single person in town? The first episode is going to be a two-parter and will provide at least a few answer (however confusing they might be).

Twin Peaks returns on SHOWTIME on May 21, 2017, and will have 18 episodes total. Will it be enough to sate longtime fans? Here’s hoping!

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
