Nintendo Switch May Get Two Zelda Titles During Lifetime

By Todd BlackJanuary 17, 2017
Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild, Legend of Zelda Movie

Easily the biggest announcement from the Nintendo Switch reveal event was that the Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild was officially confirmed as a launch title for the system. With an epic trailer to boot. However, according to Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma, there may be another one on the system during its lifetime:

“I haven’t been able to fully use all of the new features of the system,” Aonuma told IGN. “There could be the possibility of another Zelda on Nintendo Switch.”

Though Breath Of The Wild did take a while to come out, this isn’t unfeasible. In fact, the Wii had two Zelda titles too in Twilight Princess (which like BOTW was a dual platform release) and then Skyward Sword, which easily had the more refined motion controls of the two. So, with BOTW being a launch title (just like Twilight Princess was), it’s very possible for them to make another title while the Switch is around.

For Aonuma, the key thing here is to be true to what Legend of Zelda is, then see where you can take things:

“I think the core element of Zelda gameplay kind of stays the same. There’s the main character development as well as characters you meet along the way, and then you learn new things as the character develops,” he said. “With that said I think we could keep all that, and then I do wonder how we can expand from here with that in mind.”

He has noted in the past a desire to return to a multiplayer title, which could suit the Switch if made right. Do you want another Legend of Zelda title on the Nintendo Switch? Or are you just thinking about Breath of the Wild right now? Let us know!
