Ryukishi07 Announces New When They Cry Game for 2017

By Josh PiedraDecember 30, 2016
Higurashi

Ryukishi07, the man behind Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When the Cicadas Cry), Umineko no Naku Koro ni (When the Seagulls Cry) and Ookamikakushi (Masque of the Wolf), announced that the latest installment of the Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) series is coming some time in 2017.

He states that he is looking to make the next game “completely different” from the previous entries in the series.

The original Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel was released back in 2002 during Comiket. Since then, When They Cry has received two television anime seasons along with two OVAs. Umineko no Naku Koro ni also received a television anime as did the well less received Ookamikakushi. There have also been several manga dedicated to the When They Cry series, divided up into different arcs. The series is well known for its murder mystery and some have hailed Higurashi as one of the greatest murder mystery tales in anime and visual novels. The series’ level of violence was one of the reasons why we have heavier censorship in anime today, especially after a murder took place in Japan that mimicked one of the show’s characters.

No further details are available at this time about the new installment of the series.
