Xbox One Has Outsold The PlayStation 4 Yet Again

By Keith MitchellOctober 14, 2016

Ever since the middle of Summer 2016, the Xbox One has been riding a wave of momentum. So much much that the system has outsold the PlayStation 4 for three months now, according to the NPD group. Of course, this is likely due to a number of reasons, from the Xbox One price cuts, the updated Xbox One S with includes a UHD Bluray player, strong Xbox Games with Gold lineup and the inclusion of Xbox 360 fan-favorite games via backward compatibility. It also didn’t hurt that two of Microsoft’s biggest exclusive titles, Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4, are both enjoying fantastic sales – for both Xbox One and Windows 10.

Ironically enough the addition of the UHD player is instrumental for the Xbox One’s recent sales surge. The fact that this is the cheapest unit on the market, yet performs very well is a huge success for Microsoft. Just about anyone with a 4K will look at the system as the perfect opportunity for scoring a decently priced UHD player. Sony simply dropped the ball by not adding a UHD player in either the PS4 Slim or the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro. This is similar to what helped bolster the sales of the PlayStation 3 when it was released and included a Bluray player, where the Xbox 360 did not.

Even still, don’t expect Sony to take this lying down on the job. Many are speculating that the sales drop of the PlayStation 4 is merely due to fans waiting for the release on the PlayStation 4 Pro, which is set to be released on November 10, 2016. Also don’t forget that the PlayStation VR has just been released and so far, the reception and reviews have been very encouraging. It’s going to be a very interesting next couple of months for both platforms, that’s for sure.
