The Legend of Korra Makes Return In A New Graphic Novel from Dark Horse Comics

By Keith MitchellOctober 5, 2016

While The Legend of Korra ultimately didn’t live up to the expectations its fans, there’s no denying that it did feature an interesting take of the continuation of Nickelodeon’s “Avatar” series. And while it was likely the last Avatar we’ll see in animated form, it thankfully isn’t the last we’ll see from Korra and crew. Just recently announced is the return of The Legend of Korra, in a new 3-part graphic novel series from Dark Horse Comic, entitled “Turf Wars“.

The graphical novel takes place after events of The Legend of Korra animated series, with Korra and Asami returning from the spirit world. Only to find out that during the Avatars’ absence, that some overzealous developer has plans to turn the spirit world portal into an amusement part. As you can imagine, this likely doesn’t sit well with the spirits, who already don’t have much trust or like with the humans. But that’s now the only issue, as the triads (Agni Kai’s, Red Monsoon’s, Terra and Triple Threat) have also returned and they’re turning Republic City into a battle zone, where no one is safe. Frustrated by the recent turn of events, Korra and Asami vow to make things right again. Hopefully, we’ll get to see the return of other characters from the animated series, such Varrick, and my favorite – the deceased General Iroh.

This three-part graphic novel series is written by Nickelodeon TV series co-creator and executive producer Michael Dante DiMartino, drawn by Irene Koh (Batgirl, 1602, TMNT), with covers by Heather Campbell (Free Comic Book Day 2016: The Legend of Korra), colors by Jane Bak, and consultation by TV series co-creator and executive producer Bryan Konietzko. Sadly the graphic novel won’t be available until sometime during June 2017.
