Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Trailer Revealed

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 3, 2016

If you’ve been missing Captain Jack Sparrow and his high seas adventures, you’re in luck! The fifth installment in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has finally released a trailer. While the iconic character doesn’t make an appearance yet, there’s still plenty to glean from the two minutes of footage.

The story appears to revolve around a crew of undead pirates on the search of Jack Sparrow, including Javier Bardem as Captain Salazaar. Sparrow, on the other hand, will be looking to attain power through a mystical item, as per usual, with Poseidon’s trident being our magical McGuffin this time around. Orlando Bloom returns as Will Turner, presumably still serving as the underworld guide for dead sailors, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, and Kevin McNally as Sparrow’s right-hand-man Gibbs. Newcomers to the cast includes Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Brenton Thwaites (Oculus), and David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings). Rock legend Paul McCartney will also make an appearance in a currently unnamed role. The film has two directors, Joachim Rønning and  Espen Sandberg, who last worked on the critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated sea-fairing film Kon Tiki.

Those who remember the fourth film in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides might be weary as the attempt to continue the story ultimately resulted in the worst movie so far, earning rather unsavory score of 32% on Rotten Tomatoes. With the return of some of our favorite actor, another crew of spooky swashbucklers, and directors who know how to film action at sea, hopefully this movie will fare a little better. At the very least, if all fails, this could be the final nail in the coffin of Depp’s career.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will premiere in the U.S. on May 26, 2017.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
