Akame ga Kill! Manga Set to End

Akame ga Kill

It was announced in the 14th compiled volume that Tetsuya Tashiro’s Akame ga Kill! manga is set to come to an end.  The manga will conclude in the 15th compiled volume which is due out in Japan this winter.  The manga began its final story arc back in volume 12 which was published in 2014. The manga has been widely successful as the 14th volume has revealed that the series has 3.3 million copies in print worldwide.  This number also includes the prequel, Akame ga Kill! ZERO.

Yen Press, the North American distributor of the series, describes the story of Akame ga Kill! as follows:

The dark fantasy action manga centers on Tatsumi, a young warrior who travels to the Imperial capital to join the military, and instead finds a world of corruption, decay, and brutality. Tatsumi encounters Night Raid, an assassin group that supports the efforts of a growing underground revolution, joining their ranks after they reveal the true nature of the Imperial nobility to him. Among Night Raid’s number is Akame, a reticent swordswoman who has a past as an imperial assassin.

The manga launched in Square-Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine back in 2010.  Since then it has spawned a prequel manga as well as a television anime series which featured an anime-only ending, deviating from the manga about half way through. The anime aired in Japan in 2014 and Sentai Filmworks currently holds the license for North American distribution. The anime also aired in the United States in 2015 as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami anime block.  The prequel, Akame ga Kill! ZERO has also entered its final story arc in June of last year.  The prequel is ran in Square-Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine and there are, currently, no plans for an anime adaption of the prequel.
