Mario and Pokemon Titles to Release within Six Months of NX Launch

By Keith MitchellAugust 4, 2016

Nintendo’s upcoming system, the NX, has been one of our most talked about topics around here as of late. Many of us grew up on Nintendo’s consoles and all share the same feeling’s about the Wii, Wii U and of course the NX. Many of our fears are centered around the fact that Nintendo may not do a proper launch of the pending system and merely depend on a handful of games to keep the system afloat.

Whether that happens or not is still speculation, but at we now know that Nintendo is planning to have a decent launch window. Per sources close to MCV,  Nintendo plans to have a Super Mario and Pokemon game ready, to align with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, within 6 months of the NX release date. No word if the Super Mario title will be a 2D or 3D title as of yet, but here’s to hoping to a follow-up to Super Mario Galaxy.

Nintendo is notorious for having dreadful long windows with little to no games, especially with the Wii U and 3DS. So this time around, Nintendo is hoping to make sure that those who pick up the NX will have titles to keep them busy. Still, that 6-month window is bothersome, as I’d love to see something around 3 months.

In addition, MCV is claiming that Nintendo is already on the hunt to secure third-party support for the NX, something that the Wii and Wii U have struggled with for years.

Finally, claims that the NX will be a handheld console have confirmed to be correct. The NX will indeed be a handheld console that can be plugged into TV’s and will sit between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, in terms of power. Nintendo isn’t looking to steal gamers away from the PlayStation and Xbox. Instead, they are focusing the NX towards smartphone gamers, which seems like a smart idea on Nintendo’s part. There’s tons of smartphone and casual gamers out there.

The Nintendo NX has a current launch window of March 17, 2017.
