Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Trailer Places Demons Center Stage

By Tyler KelbaughAugust 3, 2016

Demons, Demons and MORE DEMONS!

With the North American launch of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse just over a month away, Atlus has released a new trailer highlighting the game’s signature demon recruitment feature.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse will feature over 450 recruitable demons, from the recognizable Medusa to the obscure Adramelech. Players can simply fight these creatures, or recruit them through an in-battle negotiation feature.

Players can utilize demons upon their capture. Demons will level up along side the player, gaining experience through victory in battle. Occasionally, demons will even reward the player with useful items after battle.

Each race of demons also has unique properties that effect how players can utilize them. Each type has specific stats and weaknesses as well as unique, and often hilarious, personalities. They can also learn new and more powerful moves, sometimes offering to teach the player character one of their techniques. You can also swap defeated or wounded demons in and out of your party mid-battle, just incase an enemy is exploiting a demon’s weakness.

The Demonic Compendium feature can further complicate the game. This feature lets players fuse several demons together to form a new monster that may better fit their party. In Shin Megami Tensei IV, players could only fuze two demons at a time, but Apocalypse seems to allow up to four creatures to be combined at once so players can create the perfect fiend their party needs.

Fans of the series will recognize many of the demonic faces that appear throughout the trailer, including the fairy Napaea and the element Aquans, however a new demon called Inanna an appearance at the trailer’s end.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse launches in North America on September 20th.
