New Pokemon Sun and Moon Information Revealed

By Tyler KelbaughAugust 2, 2016
Pokemon Sun

Yesterday Nintendo revealed more information on its holiday blockbuster, Pokemon Sun and Moon, through the official Pokemon Youtube channel.

You can watch the new video below:

New forms for several Gen I Pokemon, including Exeggutor, Vulpix, Ninetails, Sandshrew, and Sandslash were revealed. These changes are sure to effect the way players view and utilize these Pokemon, as each new form comes with a type-change.

Exeggutor, a Grass/Physic type, grows into a massive palm tree with a giraffe-like neck made from its bark. It also drops its physic typing in favor of the Dragon-type.

The other four Pokemon, meanwhile, have all developed new Ice-type forms. The beautiful new take on the classic Ninetails has changed from a standard Fire-type into an Ice/Fairy Pokemon. Sandshrew and Sandslash, meanwhile, have dropped their Ground-typing in favor of Ice and Steel.

Several new Pokemon with unique abilities were also revealed. For example, the dancing bird Oricorio changes it’s type depending on which of the games islands it’s currently located. This change also effects the type of damage its signature Revelation Dance move deals.

Minior, a Rock/Flying type, has the ability to shed its rocky shell revealing four different colored cores. The Minior Core can launch quicker attacks in combat, although the color of the core seems to be purely for design flair.

Also revealed were Gumshoos (who seems to have taken ill-advised hair styling advice from Donald Trump), Fomantis, Lurantis and Mudbray.

Several new moves were also revealed, including powerful Z attacks unleashed based on a Pokemon’s type. Pikachu, for example, can unleash Gigavolt Havoc, while Litten can use Inferno Overdrive.

A few new story campaigns were also revealed, although they were not explained in great detail. The Island Challenge seems to have players accomplishing a variety of tasks before facing off with the Trail Leaders in a Pokemon battle. In these battles players face off against “Totem Pokemon”. Each Totem Pokemon can call for help from other Pokemon, forcing trainers to over come even greater odds.

Nintendo’s latest core entry in the Pokemon franchise launches in North America on November 18th.

If you mention the words "Fire Emblem" around him he'll talk your ear off. He's also a pretty competent Smash Bros. player, and a passionate sports fan.
