Sonic the Hedgehog Spin Dashes into 2017 with 2 New Games

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieJuly 23, 2016

Sonic the Hedgehog has had a long and tumultous history in the gaming world. While a majority of the series games were fantastic, later iterations into the world of 3D weren’t so well received. Enter Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, and fans took a huge sigh of relief. That was until Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom were unleashed. Cue glorious rage.

Sega and Sonic Team have announced at their 25th Anniversary party that 2 new Sonic games would be coming down the pike in 2017. The first is Sonic Mania, a throwback to the Sega Genesis era of Sonic video games.

In collaboration with Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and Pagoda West, Sonic Mania will feature new stages and reimagined 90s stages in a new 2D adventure. Players will can play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles, as they explore this new world in typical 90s Sonic fashion.

Sonic Mania releases in the Spring 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The second game unveiled is more of a mystery, but Sonic fans already have their guesses.

The tone is dark, as a set of Robotnik’s Death Egg Robots ravage the land while Modern Sonic looks on. Sonic races to save the day as he spin dashes into danger, only to be saved by Classic Sonic. The two Sonics then race to stop the robots, with the trailer coming to an abrupt end at that moment. Fans are saying that this is a sequel to the wildly successful Sonic Generations, and I’m inclined to agree. Project Sonic 2017 looks like it’s going to be dark in tone, but a heck of a lot of fun too.

Project Sonic 2017 is slated for releases on PS4, Xbox One, PC and the upcoming Nintendo NX during the 2017 Holiday Season.

Thank you Based Sonic Team.
