ESPN2 to Broadcast EVO 2016 Street Fighter V Finals on TV

By Keith MitchellJuly 1, 2016

For the past few years, video games and more importantly, Esport games, have been making great strides regarding reaching out to new audiences.  With multiple companies such as TBS getting into the mix, or even ESL getting its own 24/7 Esports channel, the times are definitely changing. Now we can add one more achievement with the addition of ESPN 2 signing a deal that will have them televising the EVO 2016 Street Fighter V finals.

Yep, now you’ll have the ability to check out matches in the comfort of your living room, bedroom or anywhere that has access to a TV. The EVO 2016 Street Fighter V finals will be aired on ESPN 2, starting on July 17, 2016, at 10PM ET. And for those who’ve given up the cable set-top boxes, it will also be broadcasted on WatchESPN as well.

And while the naysayers have been saying that video games have no place on channels such as ESPN, I’m happy to see that someone has some common sense and helped make this a reality. Video games have shown the world time and time again that they require a certain threshold of mental and physical prowess and that they deserve the big stage, more now than even.

Hopefully, this is a sign of the time and we’ll see more events on the TV screen in the new future.
