Funimation Acquires License for Missing D.Gray-man Episodes

By Josh PiedraJune 30, 2016
D.Gray-man

FUNimation originally held the license for the anime adaptation of Katsuro Hoshino’s D.Gray-man series.  The unfortunate part about that is FUNimation only had the license for the first 51 episodes, leaving the entire back half of the show missing here in the United States.  With D.Gray-man Hallow starting this weekend, FUNimation decided to help fans get caught up by acquiring the license for episodes 52-103, finishing out the original series.

FUNimation originally sold the series in 12 episode blocks calling it Season one, part one and Season one, part 2 for the first half then Season two, part one and Season two, part two for the second half.  They were also charging nearly $50 for those individual parts meaning if you purchased each one new, it would run you around $200 just to get half of the entire series.  While FUNimation has not yet stated any details on how they will distribute the remaining episodes, we can only hope that they don’t go down that road once again.  If you’re looking to pick up the first two seasons now, FUNimation does have it as part of their S.A.V.E. series so you can pick it up at a cheaper price.

We should also note that FUNimation has also acquired the license for D.Gray-man Hallow and should be offering that on their streaming service.  If you do not wish to wait for the upcoming releases on DVD or Blu-Ray, the original D.Gray-man is also available for streaming on their site.  Just note that some premium subscriptions may apply.

The story of D.Gray-man is as follows:

Towards the end of the 19th century, Allen Walker officially joins the organization of Exorcists that destroy the beings known as Akuma—mechanic weapons made by the Millennium Earl with the suffering souls of the dead. Allen has both a cursed eye and an anti-Akuma weapon as an arm, bearing the power of “Innocence,” a gift given to him as an apostle of God. Allen, along with his fellow Exorcists must put a stop to the Millennium Earl’s ultimate plot that could lead to the destruction of the world and all who live on it.
