Final Fantasy VII Gets Monopoly Board Game

By Josh PiedraJune 30, 2016

It was discovered yesterday that Merchoid, on online retailer, was accepting pre-orders for a Final Fantasy VII edition of the popular board game Monopoly.  According to the website, the game is expected to ship in April of 2017 and will cost $50 USD.  If you’re looking to take to the website in order to get your copy reserved, you’re in for a bit of bad luck as it appears Merchoid took down the page that housed the board game.

The original page, despite being a broken link, can be found here: http://www.merchoid.com/product/final-fantasy-vii-monopoly/

Before the page was taken down, Merchoid went on to describe the game in the following way:

“Delve into the evolving city of Midgar in search of the latest business opportunities, perhaps you’ll buy up a string of plots for housing development for the people, or go industrial and build a Mako reactor plant.”

There is no telling if Merchoid will put the game back up, but it certainly does appear that they may have jumped the gun too soon, especially with the expected ship date still being ten months away. One would assume that Merchoid won’t be the only place selling the game, either. Just keep your eyes peeled as we’re sure it’ll pop up again in the future. It doesn’t seem to be a hoax because there are plenty of specialty editions of Monopoly out in the world, such as The Legend of Zelda edition that was released last year so a Final Fantasy VII edition isn’t exactly far fetched.

If you take into account that the Final Fantasy VII Remake game is also in development, it could be a prelude to hype up the impending release of the title.  Being a Monopoly junkie myself, I’m probably going to sink the $50 to add the Final Fantasy VII version to my collection even if it’s not the turn-based Final Fantasy VII we asked for.

not what the people meant when they wanted a turn based FF7 :( https://t.co/Z4t332rBYm

Random would know a little something about Final Fantasy VII. He did, afterall, produce a remix album based on the game called White Materia.  Maybe you’ll want to check it out while waiting for the Monopoly game to resurface.
