Warcraft Movie Will Not Follow the Lore in Some Spots

By Josh PiedraApril 24, 2016

At a PAX East panel, Duncan Jones stated that the upcoming Warcraft movie, which is set to debut in theaters on June 10, will veer off from the lore in some aspects.  He assured us that the moments in the movie that do stray away from the tried and true Warcraft lore has been approved by Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment.  Jones stated that the reasons for doing this would be to present a better movie.  Jones did not comment which sections of the film would veer off with the story, but he did indicate that there would be several instances of the movie taking liberties with the lore.

Robert Kazinsky, the actor who is portraying Ogrim Doomhammer in the film, made the following comment that the changes were made “by people who know how to make a great film and tell a great story.” He even went as far as to claim that if these changes had not been made, this movie would have ended up like Super Mario Bros, a box office bomb from 1993.

In Warcraft, Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization, led by the humans, faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying world of Draenor to find their place in another. As a gateway known as the Dark Portal opens to connect the two worlds, the humans face destruction while the orcs face extinction. Anduin Lothar, leader of the humans, and Durotan, leader of the orcs, are then sent on a collision course that will decide the fate of their families, their people and their home.
