Manga Review: MONTHLY GIRLS’ NOZAKI-KUN Volume 2

By LizLizMarch 17, 2016
51Si3BhA5WL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Title: Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-Kun Volume 2
Author: Izumi Tsubaki
Publisher: Yen Press
Language: English
Format: Paperback
Page count: 144
Genre: Slice-of-Life, Comedy
Publication Date:
February 23, 2016

Volume 2 brings more funny short segments of Nozaki’s double life as a high schooler and a shoujo manga-ka. As usual he tries to pick out clothes and scenarios for his crew in an attempt to draw inspiration from his real life. We can see the pressure Nozaki faces as an author who seems to be having a hard time writing a volume that will get his editor’s approval. He is also fast-approaching a deadline and ends up too sick to draw. Can he pull himself together without alienating his friends?

Final Word:

I remain committed to this series and really enjoyed the second volume. While I feel like I have seen these characters before in other slice-of-life shorts, I continue to be amused by the story and Nozaki’s interactions with his friends and editor. He’s just so awkward it’s difficult to believe he can draw a popular manga and attract fans. I look forward to seeing if Nozaki ever manages to publish his current project.
