WWE Signs Shinsuke Nakamura; Will Debut At NXT Takeover: Dallas

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieFebruary 21, 2016

In what can be called an official announcement out of the WWE camp, WWE.com revealed that they have signed 14-year veteran of the Japanese wrestling scene, Shinsuke Nakamura to a contract with WWE NXT.

Nakamura, a stalwart of New Japan Pro Wrestling since 2002, makes his official debut with the WWE NXT brand during WrestleMania weekend, at NXT TakeOver Dallas, where he is slated to face former NXT Champion, Sami Zayn.

Shinsuke Nakamura’s accomplishments include being the winner of the 2011 New Japan G-1 Climax, 3 IWGP Championship reigns and 5 IWGP Intercontinental Championship reigns, and a 3-1-1 professional record in Mixed Martial Arts. He’s also competed against and alongside current WWE talents Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles and Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens throughout his 14-year run with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

When asked about Nakamura’s signing, WWE EVP of Talent, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque said: Talent is the lifeblood of our company, and the signing of Shinsuke Nakamura further demonstrates NXT’s commitment to bringing in the best talent from all over the world…his explosive style will make an immediate impact to an already dynamic NXT men’s division.”
