WB Games, Do you not like PC Gaming?

By Keith MitchellJanuary 22, 2016

To be perfectly honest, my first thought for this story was “WB Games just doesn’t give a shit about its PC audience”, which isn’t too far from the truth. And sure while the entire Batman: Arkham Knight fiasco is still fresh in everyone’s mind, we shouldn’t forget about their previous botch up, which was the release of Mortal Kombat X for PC that was plagued with issue after issue upon release. During that time, gamers who purchased the game were not able to download the entire game due to packages not being available, thanks to a new way WB Games planned to distribute the title. And even still those downloads were clocking in an upward of 30GB or more, which took some time to download. This meant that characters, game modes and even online play were not available for quite some time for many.

Eventually that got all worked out, but not before the damage was done and many of those who purchased the game were either asking for refunds or simply went and played the game else where or not at all. So as you can image that didn’t do well for the sale of the title on that platform. WB Games didn’t make their money and I’m pretty sure in their minds it was ok if you paid for said product but didn’t get it.

Fast forward to today, and WB Games is STILL out of touch with it’s PC gaming audience, as they announced that Mortal Kombat X on the PC would not receive the upcoming Kombat Pack 2, which includes new characters, new skins and the chance to download Goro if you didn’t previously. Another major slap to the face is that while WB Games and NetherRealm Studios were making it clear that they were not happy with the net-code for Mortal Kombat X, so they have started working on a new and improved version of the net-code and have even opted to allow gamers on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to register and test out the net-code in limited beta.

Oddly enough there was no mention of the PC version which also exhibited the same crappy net-code as the console versions. And now we’re finding out that a new version of Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat XL, which is pretty much the definitive version of the title and includes basically all of the Kombat Packs, all the skins and characters, will be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The PC however will not receive this version at all.

Why? Reasons cited is that the PC version only sold 500K copies of the title and neither WB Games nor NetherRealm feel that there’s a market for Mortal Kombat X on the platform.  Don’t like that? Be sure to head on over to Testyourmight.com and give NetherRealm a piece of your mind.

So, let me get this straight: WB Games completely fucks up the release of the game, continually pisses off the PC gaming audience, doesn’t given one damn about what they did and now is upset that the game didn’t sell well and decides to punish those who did purchase the title by not only providing an updated net-code but also denying them the ability to get what is supposed to be a new and improved version of the game? This is exactly the type of crap that the PC gaming market… scratch that, this is exactly the kind of crap that the gaming market as a whole does not need. You screwed up, time after time again and refuse to own up to your shortcomings and eventually act like a small child, taking your toys and running home to mommy. Or in the case of the PC, refusing to support said game anymore.

If WB Games ever wants to even be relevant in the PC Gaming Arena, there’s gonna be a lot of ass kissing that has to be done, especially with the MK community and the sheer disregard they have for the ever growing PC side of that corner of the FGC / Fighting Game Community. Even then, after the release of upcoming fighting games, Street Fighter V, Killer Instinct, as well as several other Arc System Works titles, will the PC market even care?

Of course this would all weigh upon WB Games even caring about making any effort into putting the bridge they set on fire out.
