PS2 Classics: First Wave Drops On PS4

By Jason KwasnickiDecember 5, 2015

Forget about that little conference in San Francisco. Sony decided to start the party a little early. Straight from Shuhei Yoshida, via the Playstation Blog, the Playstation Store will see its first eight PS2 titles drop today. The games and prices are as follows:

  • Dark Cloud — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99

It was also mentioned that, along with some of those titles, PaRappa the Rapper 2 and King of Fighters 2000 would be available to play on the PSX show floor. Obviously, these games should be coming in the near future.

These will not be simple emulations of the original games. Yoshida has confirmed that each title will be featured “in up-rendered 1080p” and will carry standard PS4 features including Share Play, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support. Sony has also created new trophy lists for each game “in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game.”

As we noted in our roundup, this seemed like a shoe-in for the PSX 2015 keynote. But what else is there to say about it now? Yoshida did close his statement by assuring fans that the above list would be expanded regularly, so perhaps we will see a more extensive release schedule outlined at today’s conference. Stay tuned for more updates in the world of Sony.

Born and raised in the New York area, currently kicking it in Queens, and keeping an ear to the grindstone in this crazy world of internet media hustling. Having attended the George Washington University with a Degree in History, I'm sometimes inclined to use big words unnecessarily. While I typically play a lot of RPGs, I tend to like any game that is fun. My PSN ID is NY-Miller, so hit me up if you ever want to kill some Wizards on the Moon in Destiny.
