New Details Regarding The Great Ace Attorney’s Rival Prosecutor

By Keith MitchellJune 13, 2015
Baroque

In a series of video on Capcom’s Japanese Youtube channel, Ace Attorney creator Shu Takumi has discussed how they created Great Ace Attorney protagonist Ryunosuke Naruhodo and the heroine Susato Mikotoba. The newest video gives us new insight into the game’s rival prosecutor, Baroque Vanzieks.

In the aforementioned video, Takumi discusses how Baroque is know as the “Death God” of The Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court of England. He’s given the title due to his record of never having lost a case, as well as his dark aura. Takumi also gave some historical context for the name, citing how England’s criminal justice system was seen as the brightest in the world. However, wherever there’s light, there’s always bound to be darkness, and that’s where Baroque resides.

It appears that Baroque is an ancestor of Miles Edgeworth, considering their similar titles of having never lost a case, mannerisms, and visual design.

The Great Ace Attorney or Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken, as it’s known in Japan, will be the ninth game in the Ace Attorney franchise. Unlike previous games, The Great Ace Attorney abandons the modern setting and takes place shortly after the Meji Restoration in Japan. While the game initially takes place in Japan, the focus later shifts to the United Kingdom. The game revolves around Ryunosuke Naruhodo, a distant ancestor of Phoenix Wright.

The Great Ace Attorney releases in Japan on July 9th.
