YouTube Planning Entry into the eSports Realm with Revamped Streaming Service

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieMarch 25, 2015

While YouTube failed to pick up game streaming service Twitch this past summer due to anti-trust fears, the Google-owned video on demand service is preparing their own foray into eSports with a revamped YouTube Live Experience.

While YouTube does dominate in the realm of Let’s Plays, they have never been able to leverage their livestreaming service to gaming, even forcing the service to take a backseat while making the rest of YouTube a better user experience in the world of user generated media.

Per The Daily Dot, an unnamed source states that they have about 50 engineers tasked to revamping YouTube Live, stating that gaming and eSports will be a “driving force for the new look YouTube Live.”

“There’ll be huge opportunities for established streamers and organizations soon and I would say that the record numbers of esports viewers are only going to grow when Google start promoting and partnering with these events,” the unnamed source submitted to the DailyDot.

YouTube is likely to unveil its efforts this summer at E3, which takes place in LA from June 16 – 18, 2015.
