Last night, Nintendo released its financial information for the quarter. Let’s dive into the numbers, shall we? The information in this financial data is only up to December 31st 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 sold 7.01 million consoles in the last quarter. Which means the current number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sold is 17.37 million. The software sales of the quarter, just on Nintendo Switch 2 is 17.31 million units. Essentially, as more Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are sold, more software gets sold as well. Adding the quarter’s software sales for Nintendo Switch 2 to the previous quarters yields software sales of 37.93 million games. Nintendo does not group cross-gen titles in sales. They are separate for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch sold 3.25 million consoles over the previous quarter. That brings the total Nintendo Switch consoles’ lifetime sales to 155.37 million. This now surpasses the Nintendo DS lifetime sales of 154.02 million units sold. It officially means Nintendo Switch has become the best-selling Nintendo console. The software sales of this quarter are at 47.37 million units. That makes the last three quarters 108.93 million units sold. That is a hefty chunk of software.

Software
There were some numbers for individual games that got sold for this quarter, and one game that, interestingly, did not have any numbers reported for it. Pokémon Legends Z-A sold 8.41 million copies on Nintendo Switch and 3.89 million copies on Nintendo Switch 2. That puts Pokémon Legends Z-A at 12.3 million units sold. Kirby Air Riders sold 1.76 million copies, which has already beaten out the lifetime sales of Kirby Air Ride. Kirby Air Ride still sits at 1.35 million copies sold. Even though it wasn’t reported in this data, Koei Tecmo reported that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment sold over 1 million copies on Nintendo Switch 2.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza continue to sell software, too. The total sales for Mario Kart World are now at 14.03 million. The total sales for Donkey Kong Bananza are at 4.25 million.
The game missing from the Nintendo releases for the last quarter was Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Nintendo generally doesn’t report sales of a game if they are below 1 million. It’s possible that at the time of Nintendo’s financial recording, neither the Nintendo Switch nor the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the game sold 1 million copies. Either one could be close; if I were to bet, the Nintendo Switch version would be most likely to hit 1 million.
What This Means
Overall, this financial presentation showed that more and more users are migrating to Nintendo Switch 2. It is worth noting that, similar to PlayStation 5, the early adopters of the next-gen console are previous users of the last-gen console. We can estimate this based on the annual users report that was also given at the end of the presentation.
Nintendo is still going strong with its newest console, and it is thanks to its large fanbase.
