Scott Pilgrim EX is officially on the way, and if you are a fan of classic side-scrolling beat ’em ups, you might want to clear some space on your 2026 calendar. The game was first revealed during Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2025, where Tribute Games showed off a brand-new entry in the Scott Pilgrim universe. Now we also have a release date. Scott Pilgrim EX launches on March 3, 2026, bringing pixelated chaos back to the streets of Toronto.
Alongside the release date news, Tribute Games also revealed two new playable characters, and they look like they are going to shake things up in a big way. Matthew Patel joins the fight with all the theatrical flair and mystic chaos you would expect. His combat style leans heavily into crowd control, summoning his demon hipsters to distract enemies, create openings, and generally make life miserable for anything on screen.
Then there is Robot-01, who is basically built for pure destruction. This high-speed combat unit rockets across the screen with thrusters, transforms mid-battle, fires long-range blasts, and unleashes powerful attacks that rain explosive projectiles over groups of enemies. Between Patel’s battlefield control and Robot-01’s raw power, it is clear the roster is being designed with varied playstyles and co-op synergy in mind.
With the addition of Matthew Patel and Robot-01, this brings the roster of playable characters to six:
- Scott Pilgrim
- Ramona Flowers
- Roxie Richter
- Lucas Lee
- Matthew Patel
- Robot-01
While this may seem like a small roster, Tribute Games has also teased that more characters are still to be revealed before launch. If this early roster is any indication, the final lineup should offer plenty of variety in both personality and playstyle.
Scott Pilgrim EX is shaping up to be a modern take on the classic beat ’em up formula. Expect flashy combos, special moves, and plenty of chaotic co-op action as you fight your way through a warped version of Toronto packed with over-the-top enemies. Multiplayer is a big focus again, so this absolutely looks like the kind of game you will want to run with friends, whether that is on the couch or online.
That is a big reason why Scott Pilgrim EX has landed on The Outerhaven’s Beat ’em Ups to Look Forward to in 2026 list. With its March 3, 2026 release date, growing roster, and clear love for both the source material and arcade-style action, this one is already looking like a standout brawler for next year.
